OK, this is kinda complicated...

Ok, lets start with some history of the situation. Me and a group of friends are into film making. We made a comedy titled "Oh Crap, Aliens!" about aliens invading Wisconsin and abducting people. It runs about and hour and a half and is as funny as fuck. We showed it at our school (no the best idea, you know, content and all) and made about a grand on it. Not too bad for $150 spent.

Anyways, we shot the movie on MiniDV and used a Mac G4 with Final Cut Pro to edit it. Now, we are ready to put on to DVD, but we want it nice. We can burn it simply using iDVD but we want something great.

Question is: can i burn all of this movie, some bloopers and extra stuff onto a dvd with that, bring it home and put it on my computer to screw around with without losing quality, reencoding, compressing, or anything like that. If I can, can someone please tell me what would be the best program to use to rip the dvd, and what dvd authoring program (with menus) works best for making the new one. Thats it, any questions, please ask.

DVDLab pretty much does it all.

oh and, DVDLab OR TMPGEnc DVD Author is pretty sweet

If you can, I would advise transferring the original ('raw' if you will) movie from the Mac to your own computer, using an external harddrive. (I'm not sure about the encoding quality of iDVD, that's why I'm suggesting it.)

On the other hand, if you don't have access to an external harddrive (or have trouble transferring them between the Mac and PC) you will not lose that much quality seeing as the movie is only 1,5 hours - you could encode at a fairly high bitrate and still fit it onto a DVD-R.

As for software, I second the other people's opinion. DVDLab or TMPEG DVD Author will do the editing fine.

Cool, i'll try some of these ideas. With final cut pro we can export the movie to a single quicktime file (uncompressed its prolly 30 GB, so we need firewire) but can TMPGenc DVD author or DVDLab or something handle .mov file with correct DVD specs and properly encode it to fit to DVD.

Second, i'd love to sell everyone copies (prolly $10 bucks, no more than that i'd guess) but how would i go about doin this. Secondly, if i do, please don't show it to someone that might freak over the use of copyrighted music, we've yet to get rights (but the money was for the school film class and club so maybe we'll get free rights on that). We really want to show it at a festival but all the ones around here are more short film comedies than full length anything. Plus we need those rights. So any suggestions about that would be nice too.

Not sure if thats a compliment but...

Anyways, i'm not hosting it right now, but i will again soon. A few others have dl'ed it, so check for them. It's 50 min long. Its not up to the same pruduction values as our new one (shot on VHS and in cam mic) but the jokes and comedy are there. Its also got a preview of a movie we never made called Thugrilla about a rogue gorilla cop on the brink of insanity with a new partner, set in the 70's.
