MPEG without sound plus VCD suttering

Hello, I'm new here. Nice forum.

Today I decided to burn my first movie into a VCD. Since I didn't know exactly what to do, I followed a guide that explained how to do it using Virtual Dub (to add subtitles) and TMPGEnc (to encode the AVI file).

Very well, after downloading those two softwares, converting the subtitles from SRT to SSA, updating Virtual Dub with the subtitler plugin, installing the handler, applying the filter, creating the frameserver, choosing the VCD resolution, saving the movie's audio to a WAV file, setting the bitrate, selecting the video mode, and, finally, converting the movie to MPEG (all with the help of TMPGEnc), I burned it using Nero.

When I played the VCD on my DVD, it showed up great, but I realized that it had some serious stuttering. Then I checked the MPEG file. It happens that the movie was ok, but it had no sound! And now I don't know how to fix this. Any help would be seriously appreciated.

just burn the vcd's .cue file with nero (or whatever you use for your burning software) and play with your dvd that way. conversion might seem to be simple, but re-encoding can cause many issues, even shuttering.

You might have to switch discs during the movie, but at least you won't have any issues watching the movie. The disc change is normally good for more popcorn or a bathroom break

Crackerjax, I would've done that... if there were any .cue files along the .avi's. Also, I want to add subtitles to the movie, besides hearing its audio and setting the aspect ratio to match my TV's (4:3, since the movie came in widescreen format and I didn't want it to have any distortions). Wasn't for that, I would've gone with Nero for sure.

Apparently, the movie came without sound. I had to download a plugin (AC3Filter) in order to hear it here in my PC. The problem is that even after saving the audio to a .wav file with Virtual Dub, I didn't manage to re-encode the movie with sound. And then there's the stuttering issue. The .mpeg's fine (except for the sound). The question is: when I tried to burn it into a VCD, what did I do wrong?

I think I may have chosen the wrong aspect ratio with TMPGEnc (I selected "4:3 525 line - NTSC"), but that's just a guess. And I don't want to go with all that trouble again without the certain that's what caused the stuttering.
