HELP WITH VIDEO COMPRESSON-ASAP

help ASAP
whats a good codec to use to compress a avi file - 40mb
to something resonable to download off of a website.

and best qual and small size as possible.

the video is like under 1min
but it need qual cause theres like alpha colours.

Xvid is probably the best all-round quality codec out there. You should be able to get 1 minute down to around 2-3mb at a decent quality.
