Thumbs down

The is not very good for a Telecine, ok its better than the TS that are flying about but, to me it looks kinda like a good TS, im probably wrong but theres motion blur and a strange AR, its very dark, good 5.1 sound though.

Video 6.5
Sound 9
Movie 8

It isnt the best Telecine ever, but it will do me until I buy it.

Picture isnt perfect and the AR is a little too stretched to be 1:85 but light scenes look good, and the dark stuff looks alot better on the TV than it does on the PC.

Audio is great on the DD track and even better on the DTS one, which was a nice bonus that i wasnt expecting.

7/10/6

Redemption1980, hi hope your doing well,

mikepatton32 and you are both right, first the AR isn't 1:85, but 1:185, according to Gspot.

The reason for this is because this isn't a Telecine. But as mikepatton32, stated a very good TS, which, (by the brightness/contrast issues and other things), has mVn/VideoCD written all over it.

I'm not aware of any Telecines that are capable of motion blur when there shouldn't be any, lol. Nor am I aware of any Telecines that are cropped and zoomed either, hence the incorrect AR.
Further more, at the rescuing attempt of Hannable King it starts to go out of sync and stays that way till the end.

Yes... it is out of sync, which is very noticalbe on a large screen and still even on a standard set. I have chk it on 6 seperate players, half of which were "top- end" the other half "low- end" players. I also chked it on my PC and it is out of sync.
Not only was the sync issue more obvious on a Large Screen TV, but actual camera focusing in and out was noticable.
It aggravates me that everyone is so spoiled with crap releases that this has been actually accepted as a telecine, and it hasn't been nuked.

vid- 3 (mislabled TS)
aud- 5 (out of sync)
mov- 10 ( I enjoy the Blade series)

actually, there are lots of zoomed/cropped telecines, they are cropping foreign subtitles... remember the russian TC's that were coming out a while back? and how you could randomly see russian characters at the bottom of the screen? they are zoomed in post-processing (in a program like virtual dub), but the full aspect ratio is there in the original PDVD. the aspect ratio is stretched to give it a more full-looking AR. plus, the flickering is caused by the telecine camera... think telecine cams don't exist? in fact, they were used in the 80's to do FILM --> VHS transfers on special screens, and similar cameras are being used in russia / france to rip these telecines straight from the silver screen. telecine cameras are not manufactured anymore, and havent been since digital transfers took over... see http://www.eglifilm.ch/images/hd/telecine-gross.jpg for a pic of a FILM --> DVD telecine machine

one point that might support your theory is the volume name is BLADE3TS... wierd...

imho, its an ok telecine, but it cant handle some of the action sequences. i saw it in the theater, it was worth the trip for the special effects.

video - 7 - off colors, very sharp, but the action sequences break up a bit and you see slight artifacting / lines / flickering

audio - 10 - perfect transfer

movie - 6 - meh, blade 1 ruled, 2 & 3 were a bit of a dissapointment... still enjoyed it in the theater tho

Hi gfavored, hope your well too.
I had my doubts on this being a real TC myself, but im not totally sure, some of it looks far too good to be a TS, but others look very iffy indeed, and I'd say the overall quality was about the same as Centropy's After the Sunset TS, which is the best TS ive saw to date.
Once thing though, its nowhere near as good as the National Treasure TC.

As for the Sync issue, yeah i noticed it on the Dolby Digital track when i was testing it, but it was fine on my DVD player, if i selected the DTS soundtrack, i have no idea if the french one is or not

vcd fogie, hi,

Yes I understand what you are saying, the thing is I wasn't clear on my end as to what I ment.

Yes there are alot of TC's that crop out the subs, but what I ment was this one isn't cropping out subs or anything else, so there is no need to crop it, it's cropped because this was shot in the theater as all TS's are.
I think the above screenshots though says it all, as I had suspected from the beginning this is a good TS by VideoCD.
