tested on standalone and not working..........

Posted by oqwarrior on 01-10-2005 06:30 AM:

I'm downloading this now. Sample looks fine, but some people are telling me this has been nuked (although I don't see it nuked anywhere). Anyone have any details?

From sample:

9/9/9.5

No offense mag, but the reason it probably doesnt work is this is a PAL release. NOT ALL dvd players support it. PAL = EU format and this my friend is that. APex and cheaper dvd players have decoders to play em, while others do not. It works fine, least in my apex. didnt watch it all but watched few mins. Anyhow, good work guys, but you really blew the divx of this.

So is it worth the download??

Taa..

This is definitely in PAL format, and it is obvious that the actual screener came on two discs and they downsampled and put both discs into a 1-disc release. Now that I've watched the actual release, I think I'll change my ratings. The video bitrate doesn't go much above 3.3mbps, leaving the picture a bit fuzzy and pixely in places. The audio is crystal clear. New ratings:

8.2/9/9.5

9/9/10

video 9.5
audio 10
movie ?

Picture is great although it starts out with a blue/green tinge, check out the color of the supposedly 'silver' planes. It does disappear after a while.

Sound is flawless.

Movie ?

Great job TA.

Do you mean no b&w? I haven't grabbed this yet and would like to know.

means the picture doesn't go black and white in some places... usually screeners go black and white and display a no copys sign or txt.

Haven't tested this on the DVD player, but on the PC its not as good as it could be.

First off, why is the film split into 2 Different Title Sets, I know it came on 2 DVDR's, but ive managed to do that with LOTR no problem.
Also the green/blue tint is quite bad in the first hour or so, also the bitrate doesn't seem to rise above 3.5mbs, and looks very much like a CBR encode to me.
For an example go to Chapter 4, and look at the ground as the plane hits it, its a blocky mess of colours, but the bitrate stays at about 3.5mbps, the tint is also bad in that same scene.

Sound is coming up as 5.1 on the PC, but i dont have a 5.1 soundcard to test it, I will edit when i have tested it on the DVD Player.

6/9/?

I can't speak to the low bitrate, but as far as the blue/green tint-- according to this article(and screenshots):

http://www.theasc.com/magazine/jan05/aviator/page1.html

It is *supposed* to look like that.

very nice as it isnt even out in cinema in UK yet!

8.5/9/ havent watched all of it yet

Posted by Ripper on 01-12-2005 12:03 PM:

I downloaded this b4 i found that corrupt have released it as a 2x dvd set video untouched and the fact the 1 disc version is reportably 3300 bitrate cant confirm that as i ran out of discs haha

very nice release. barely any macro due to the lowered bitrate..
only noticed it on one scene when hughes and hepburn are
flying.. the night sky - 2 seconds of video tops.

video: 8.5
audio: 10
movie: 9

great film.

Posted by SkullWolf on 01-13-2005 11:28 PM:

Really nice screener, yes it's downsampled but unless you're watching it on an uberlarge plasma TV it would be nigh-impossible to tell. Audio is 5.1 and sounds great, and the only nags are small "Property of Dreamworks. For Screening Purposes Only." warnings that show up at the very bottom of the screen for about 8 seconds apiece, and do nothing to detract from the film. Very well-mastered for a screener, too, not too far from retail quality I wouldn't think (excluding menus of course). Plus it has chapters .

8.5/9.5/8

Much better than the trailers make it out to be. Had to watch it at home because I don't think I could watch a 3 hour movie without having to use the bathroom (and I HATE missing stuff in theaters).

Posted by Jc100 on 01-16-2005 01:40 AM:

Definitely 2 dvds downsampled to one. It paused about 8 seconds, while it changed, I was liek WTF... Where he talks to the guy with pictures of katheryn and then it swaps to guy of pan am.. theres a gap.. and it loads to the other cd.. other than that nothing bad.. long movie. was ok... nothing to write home about.. but worth a watch i guess.. but was long. seemed fine to me quality wise on my apex... so anyhow thats my 2 cents.

Posted by tehncity on 01-17-2005 06:56 AM:

How come i don't have any sound, video is fine but on my PC there is no sound, should i download a new codec ?

Posted by pedantics on 01-17-2005 10:15 PM:

looks wonderful for such a long movie at 4.5gb, nice job to whoever encoded this. as expected, a bit of artifacting in dark scenes - but fuck, I'll take that for free =)

and W3RD to PAL releases, NTSC always looks inferior on a PAL tv, so this was a rare treat.

movie was good too - better than that gangs of new york shyte, good to see scorsese getting his shit together again.

7.5/10/8.5

Unhappy Length

Hi,

Isn't the real version supposed to be like 3 hours long? This version is only 2 hours and 8 minutes.

Chachi

PS Just check out http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=613 to change PAL to NTSC
