first things first, more info is needed, what programs you're using, what steps you're taking to burn the images, or are you extracting the mpgs and re-encoding....

first thing i'd do in your shoes, is get a copy of daemon tools or alcohol 120, something that will let you mount an image... then try viewing that on your computer, if that works, great, your image is fine and its the burning that needs resolving.

"mplayer says i need a codec "

Download one of them Ace-Mega codec packs, that will sort out any missing ones...

"saosin release will not play on any of my dvd players "

Which DVD player are you using, are you using CD-Rs' or DVD's?

It may need unlocking if using CD-R's.....

Soz bud, but that's terrible advice, codec "packs" cause more problems than they fix. If you have an .avi you can't play, simply use GSpot to identify the required codecs. As for playing Saosin releases in mplayer... I suspect it wants an MPEG2 codec and if you can't find a dedicated one, install FFDShow (although personally I'm not that fond of it).
