DVD Player Recs

I want to buy a DVD player that will handle any brand of CD-R i play on it. Looking for it to play DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD-R and DVD-R etc.

What's out there that will do this for a good price? Thanks.

So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

If you have the money or you can prise the purse out of Pho's hands now is a good time to maybe think about getting a DVD Recorder.

I have the Phillips DVD+ R 880 and i have never had a problem with it! Plays DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD-R DVD-R and records in DVD+R and DVD+RW

I usually buy the DVD+RW's for a fiver each and once the disk is full burn it off onto a cheap 99p DVD-R and erace the DVD+RW for use again.

Richer sounds are selling the 880 for a penny under £400

Just one thing tho......dont get the 980 model. Its older and has a lot of bugs. Mine kept crashing and destroying disks so i took it back.

If a recorder aint your bag give the Pioneer DV-340. Plays everything i throw at it and you can pick it up at richersounds.co.uk for about £120 . Doesn't have RGB output tho

Right...thats it.... I'm outta here. Catch you next time. Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.

the dvd recorder mentioned in an earlier post sounds cheap but i wont touch phillips as in 1987 i had a 799.00 pound stereo vhs recorder after less than 2 years the eject motor failed and parts where no longer avaliable

Posted by memoman on 09-06-2002 02:32 PM:

oh reguarding the post about svcds they are only around 40 mins in lenght due to them being of higher quality than vcds (in most cases) .thats why shitty avi's are around 200mb or less.my cyber home plays all the formats perfect except for divx of course pity
:-(

i wish i had a suitcase of these (real ones of course)

I've got 2 with a 3rd on the way...

RCA 5250P -

Plays every VCD (in standard vcd format 1150kbps/224kbps/352x240). No media issues, plays
even the cheapest CDR's.

XVCD support is fair - won't do resolutions above 352x240 w/o studdering, however it will play up to 2100kbps vcd stream flawlessly.

SVCD support is excellent. I've got a template I made that'll fit a 95min movie w/2-pass vbr min 1900, max 2500, avg 2300 w/128kbps audio (I can't tell the difference) that looks damn like a dvd.

This player is sensative to burn speed - no more then 8X.

Panasonic RV31

Plays every vcd, regardless of media and burn rate.

XVCD support is great - I've used KVCD's 702x480 template and the quality and playback are great.

No svcd support, but you can muck with the headers and get some to play.

New one I just ordered :
Pioneer DV343

Supposedly this thing plays everything as well. We'll see.

RE : Cyberhome player

i had this player but it broke after 2 hours and the ntsc->pal was awful. Frames skipped left right and center.

Get the acoustic solutions 551 from richersounds.co.uk...better picture quality too

If oyu go to vcdhelp.com, theres also a guide which you can enter your specs for a dvd player and search their db for information and comments from other readers.

.

My cyberhome plays 80% of the vcds i have out of sync. Its not really a problem as i have a standalone vcd player, a pioneer deck and my Philips dvd recorder for my vcds now. I dont think i would recommend the cyberhome. I only keep it around cos it has Macrovision disable so i keep it hooked up to my DVD Recorder.
