i just notest the svcd version was nukes because its a mislabled telesinc does that mean the dvd version is also a mislabled telesinc is it the same source as the svcd

Posted by hoozdapimp on 06-18-2005 09:54 AM:

is this a TS just like the SVCD version? I'm wondering why there is no 5.1 audio for some of the latest TC's.

Posted by lynxthecat on 06-18-2005 10:15 AM:

After watching it on a 32" WS, I'll have to say this is one of the most impressive TC-releases I've ever seen! Even the SVCD was so impressive, it makes me wonder what the future brings..

I guess the TC-releasegroups makes improvements on the TC-machine as time goes by.

I'm tempted to give top score for the video, but I'll got to have somthing to go on, if there will be even more improvements in quality. So here it goes:

Video/audio/move - 9/8/5 (I didn't think this movie was any good)

5.1 audio comes from theater dts discs but a couple of months ago the mpaa but a 500-bit encryption on the bastard things so now groups cant use dts until someone cracks it!

-edit-

rating as a tc dvdr:

8.5/9/?

as my connection means it takes 48 hours (lol) to get a full dvd-r ill pass and go for the xvid that MoF released...

Aspect ratio seems to be off on this, should be 2.35:1

::edit::

Aspect ratio is definately wrong, play in vlc and set to 2.35:1 to see the diference it makes

It was 2.35.1 on my widescreen. Video was GREAT, but the audio wasn't as good (audio was very poor at points). Thanks to meteor for the release, to me the movie was slow and boring (not bad, but not great). It did have it moments, but wasn't as good as I had heard. To each his own, thanks again for the quick quality release meteor.

I'm sorry, but anyone who rated this below at least a 9 is OUT OF THEIR MIND.

THis is by FAR the best TC i have ever seen. EVER. Can it get better than this? Yet. Why? Because tv and movie studios USE telecine machines to MAKE dvd's and HDTV "encodes" or transfers. So what does this TC release mean being the best the scene has ever seen (previously imo I'd have to say the best TC was T3)? This means either the scene is getting better TC machines and/or the've got better software to use them to make the transfers with (the least likely) and/or they are learning how to use the TC machines better.

At any rate, this is an INSANELY great/superb/awesome rls video-wise for not being a screener of any type (VHS/DVD/etc) nor a CAM or TS.

THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS A TS people. No motion blur to speak of, etc. Sure there are some scratches/minor cigar burns you could say but that's all from the film. MAJOR studios and tv stations like HDNet Movies and HBO HD, etc, etc, etc, edit those out but they use the exact same method of making HDTV transfers of a film -- they take the actual film and run it through a TC machine and use computer software. They're just much better at it than the scene has been though OBVIOUSLY we're getting better for one reason or the other.

Seriously, if I didn't know any better I'D SWARE I was watching a relatively bad xfr of the retail DVD and/or the SVCD or XVID/DIVX version of the retail DVD.

This is just a true milestone for 'the scene' -- especially if TC rls's start coming out THIS GREAT on a regular basis. It puts 90% of other TC rls's to SHAME. It is truly amazing and EXTREMELY close to retail quality straight from the studio.

How this has such a poor rating here on vcdq is beyond me. Obviously people haven't watchted this. I've seen it on my PC, Standalone Pioneer and Standalone JVC both in progressive mode on HDTV's. The JVC being on a Samsung 50" DLP WS (1 year old) and the Pioneer being on a 50" Panasonic FS that's a few years old (about 3).

AMAZING RELEASE. Even if it had mono sound this is one to get. Once again, a true MILESTONE in TC scene releases. No other TC in the scene comes too close to this at ALL. NO WAY. Some pretty close, but none VERY close. Simply AMAZING.

GRAB IT NOW !!! By the way, Meteor, if you're reading this I've supported and appreciated ALL your TC DVDR rls's and if this is what you will be coming out with in the future, well, you deserve hella props as you have truly raised the bar.

INSANELY GREAT. GRAB IT AT ALL COSTS.

10/10 (even being DD2.0 AC3 it's still AMAZING audio, too)
Movie: 8 (better than I thought)

Video is great, what you would expect for a TC.
But audio is muffled in various places, making it difficult to hear what is being said.

Air1, you must be alot less fussy than me, because im not massively keen on this release.

The pic is nice and clear and sharp, but the colours are slightly off, the AR is wrong, its far too light, and the sound is horrible.

Still great for this early, but not a perfect release and not the best TC ever either.

8/6/?

Posted by memnon on 06-19-2005 08:03 PM:

as said above audio is pretty crap

I am very fussy you could say. Not in the sense that I won't watch a pretty poor release even though that's usually the case, but more or less in the way of being EXTREMELY critical of releases between freinds and such.

Everyone complaining about the audio -- true it is not perfect, but jesus christ -- why the 5 ratings or lower or 6 even? I mean come-on... I didn't notice a single muffled point though there was 1-2 parts at least (maybe 3-4) where I had to rewind it a second to hear what a line was that was spoken but from my view it wasn't because it was "muffled" but because the actor speaking or spouting out the line kind of mumbled it or said it too quick for me. Other than that the audio was crystal clear and I had no major complaints though with this SUPERB picture I would have LOVED DD5.1 or DTS.

Anyhow since others are saying the same about the audio I suppose the majority is right, though I still think it's the movie, not the release, in those 'parts' that you are claiming that it's muffled and/or quiet. Just my opinion.

As far as your comments about the picture, you're the first I've seen to at least speak their mind about what 'flaws' there are. Sure there's been some rather low 'ratings' or scores though I think this is just people being people. You always get that with rls's even if they're a 1:1 copy with no downsampling of a retail disc's picture.

Colors too bright? Eh.... I'd say maybe 5% (meaning hardly at all; miniscule; more or less not very true and certainly not noticeable unless you look for it). If you think it's way too bright than I think maybe some settings on your DVD player and/or TV 'may' need tweaking because I haven't heard anyone else say this. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm definately not flaming so don't get the wrong impression. At any rate, wouldn't you agree a rls is far better to be a little or a lot too bright than a little or a lot too dark? I do... 1,000% and so do most others. AR is wrong? Colors slightly off? Well, as I said it isn't a 100% unbeatable rls though it truly is the best non screener rls I've ever seen. Hands down. No doubt. BUT -- as I said before and I'll say again, it DOES have flaws and the retail will definately be better. As far as the picture goes, I'd say only by maybe 10% at the most... This was jaw-dropping as far as picture quality goes.

Once again, maybe I'm wrong, and I'm -not- hating or flaming at all but I think once again maybe your tv settings or dvd player settings need adjustment as you're the only one to specifically call-out (sotospeak) these 'flaws' in the picture (especially saying they're pretty bad flaws at that; or at least that's the feeling I get from your post and what you say and how you said it).

I have yet to speak to anyone personally among dozens of RL and online friends; many dozens; who disagree that this is by far the best TC ever made and by far the best rls non retail (picture wise-of course).

Good discussion and good times. I'm glad you chimed in... it's good to have discussions like this..... like I said and I'll say it again -- there's no flame or hate at all in this post; just friendly conversation.

I'd be interested to see what your follow up to this post of mine is.

Live well; be well; and have a great day everyone.

Peace....
