Aspect Ratio Headache

I'm using WinAVI to convert dloaded episodes of Lost (WS) and Desperate Housewives (WS) to DVD. In doing so the aspect ratio gets screwed up when viewing the newly created DVD on a 4:3 TV.

I've played around with all the settings on WinAVI and also with my DVD player settings but always the picture comes out squished in.

I presume WinAVI does not chop off the sides to loose some of the pic but still have correct aspect ratio and I presume it also does not letterbox the image to keep aspect ratio either.

So is there anyway around this?

try tempeg then convert to dvd with dvd meastro

it works every time and if you use tempeg select 1:1

for the aspect ratio and you wont lose it
