seriously, what is the difference between the quality of an unmarked dvdscr and a dvdrip? apart from maybe having 2.1 of 5.1 sound they seem to be exactly the same quality to me, apart from some having occasional cig burns (which i hardly ever notice, and dont care). well anyway,

10/10/9.999 (movie would be a 10 but we cant rate all 10 so...)

perfect rip

Think you may have answered your own question there

Anyways, because of cropping and resizing to mod 16 (which is necessary under rules) I would not give any scene DVD rip 10, and even without cropping (anamorphic - keeping all visible picture data) it'd be difficult to give a 10.

Also, isn't there quite a large AR error (+1% atleast?), well without taking into account if any manual cropping was done. Guess 592 x 320 was too low to use for 1400MB (0% AR error, too high a compressibility = oversized output etc), but why not set 592 x 320 anamorphic that'd help with the compressibility issue. But anyway, DEiTY's 2CD rip should have better AR than this one (640 x 352) under normal circumstances.

624 x 336 could've been a good compromise, but maybe there's an issue with that resolution?

Lol, I ramble, but yeah given the rules and stuff I think the DiAMOND rip is alright

Video is touched -- it has been encoded from DVD (MPEG2) to MPEG4/XviD. And remember parts of the sides and top/bottom have been chopped off etc. Also, there is definite blockiness albeit very rarely. Take a look at the red car, it's blocky. There is probably not much that could be done about it though apart from use a CQM and/or QPEL/GMC and give a higher bitrate.

not a bad rip

But is it the CENSORED version?

CD1 21:43, he shoots the guy in the head, but it is BLACKED out.

Is that part censored? There are other blacked out areas also.

Am I the only one who thinks that the sound is f up? Their AC3 5.1 sound is clearly 4.1!!!

Even Gspot says "Bitrate 448 kb/s (5 ch) CBR". It should be 6 ch!!! Besides that the picture looks fine but is slightly away from a good ar! (1.90:1 but has to be 1.78:1). Just seen the trailer but can anyone confirm if BobKik is right? Is this one a censored version???

Posted by FrightfoO on 08-08-2005 09:00 AM:

GSpot doesn't record the sub (.1 in 5.1) as a channel. Minor thing. Check other releases and you'll get the same thing.

Also, the AR of the DVD is 1.85:1, freaky_00. Where did you get the figure of 1.78?

Please correct me if I'm wrong someone, but taking mod 16 and correct cropping/resizing into account the AR is over 2% out. DEiTY's release is out by a lot, but certainly it's got a lower AR error than the not-recommended 2%.

Sorry, don't know if it's censored or not.

what a fantastic movie i thought this was great

Posted by b_3 on 08-30-2005 05:59 PM:

Based on the whole movie.

Video: 10 - Flawless. AR/Crop perfect. Good bitrate. No problems playing back video.

Audio: 10 - Again, perfect. You cant really say anything bad about 5.1 AC3 audio direct from a retail DVD.

Movie: 8 - Loved the movie. One of the few new movies I have enjoyed.

I believe there WILL be a extended cut of this movie later on in the year, so maybe it's not worth backing up this movie, just watch and leave on the hdd or delete?

Correct -- go here for full info on the Recut & Extended version.

This xvid is definitely good enough until that is released (12/13 in the US), especially if you really want to buy the movie, but feel the studio's attempt at double dipping is some really lame shit.
