plays pal on cd but not dvd?

i have a sony dvp-nc665p that will play pal movies on cd, but not when i burn them to a dvd. i get he "cannot play due to area limitations" nag. plays ntsc dvds just fine. any ideas whats going on there?

Not sure whats going on, but surely if you burn the dvd as region free it will play with no probs what so ever?

could this possibly be a region issue? does are the dvds you speak of burnt of bought?>

no the dvds are burned by me. i havent noticed a setting in dvddecryptor to change the pal/ntsc settings/region? heres how it all started. ive always burned to cd-r. i decided to try svcd2dvd so i could load several on one disc. i immediately got the area restrictions problem. so i burned an ntsc and a pal to dvd. the ntsc played fine. the pal did not. ive tried this several times, burning at diff speeds, using diff media. the ntsc always works, the pal always fails.

just found this answer to your problem on a different board.....if you run any pal dvd through dvd shrink...you can reencode it to be region free or region 1...you dont have to shrink it to 4.7 either...hope im not too late to save the day

Errm, your joking right? You do know that region and formats (Pal and ntsc) are different. It is true that you can rid the dvd of the region using dvd shrink, yet not of the format, that usually takes reencoding.

Wait, so the pal fails or doesnt play? What method are you using to play?

Im assuming you dont know that you dont have to rencode svcds to burn them to a dvd? Try this

same things happens on the dav-fr1

some reason it just doesnt like pal DVDs.
you can hack it tho on certain models, www.vcdhelp.com look it up.

well the pal cd's play fine. the pal dvd's give me the area limitations error - on that dvd player. so i figured the easiest thing to do was buy a region free player. i chose this one

well it plays but the screen still jumps/rolls/flickers when playing pal dvds. i have the settings on the dvd player set to multi. when i preview that setting it works fine. if i preview the ntsc setting, it looks fine. if i preview the pal setting, i get the same problem as described above when playing pal dvds. now im wondering if there is such a thing as a ntsc tv? that still wouldnt explain why it plays pal cd's. arg.
