Question Quick IRC Question

Hey, really new to IRC (about an hour or two now) yet I read through the guide linked in this thread, the Slyck IRC guide.

Anyway, I have all the commands and such pretty much figured out and know how to queue myself. IRC seems good, the only thing I haven't got to do yet is actually download anything.

Now i'm in a queue, and want to do something away from my computer and was wondering what happens once it's my turn to download the file i'm queued for. Do I need to be at the computer to accept, or will it start the transfer directly to the download folder I set?

I tried to look around for this information, but since it's probably something that people don't often have oroblems with, there's nothing I can find on it...

So to sum it up (in case you don't want to read above), what exactly happens once I reach the front of the queue? And can I just leave my computer and have the file download once I reach the front of the queue?

Thanks in advance for any help you might give.

You have a couple of options... First you could install an XDCC manager script in IRC (there's plenty of sites offering IRC scripts) and let that handle the downloads, just be careful not to have it's retry options ect set so that it "hammers" the bots, otherwise you'll get banned.

The more friendly option (but less secure) is to simply set mIRC to auto-get any files sent to you via DCC - the only problem with that is if somebody sends you some shit when you join a channel (like a Trojan) it'll be automatically saved but not run, so just make sure you delete the fuckers

Yeah i'm going to go with the second option.

I don't think it'll be a problem, and since i'm not on IRC that much, I don't think i'll be sent anything.. and even still I just won't open it.
One more IRC question if anybody feels up to answering it:

Is there any way to check your waiting queues after you've left the DCC chat with a server?

I'm going to start copying the triggers to servers I access if you can't, but I was wondering if there was a command for this that I could use to list any servers i'm in queue with or my queue spots for each file.

Though I get the feeling you might refer me back to the download manager so i'm going to check that out after I post this.

Most bots message you with your current queue position - by default it'll just appear in the main channels window but you can get mIRC to send those to a seperate window. A download manager would be easier though, just heed my warning when I say turn off the timers in it or make them very generous or you'll probably get booted from channels for hammering the bots.

if you're a noob your best bet is to stay away from those shitty xdcc bots and get on usenet, you will have much more success there.

I've looked at http://www.xdcccatcher.com/

Anybody know if that's a good manager?

Anyway, i'm having another problem with IRC. For some reason i'm always exited from the room before I get the chance to download anything. I have mIRC set to auto accept, so I go away from my computer while i'm in queue, and by the time I get back i'm no longer in the channel.

I figured maybe there is some kind of time-out setting in IRC channels or something, but like I said, i'm new.. so anybody know what the problem is?

Queues can take a few hours, so sometimes I just want to get in queue and go do something else...
