Xvid Problem

I downloaded an Xvid movie, specifically A walk to remember, ViTE.

For some reason, I can't open it on virtualdub, or any other encoding programs I've tried.

Also, the only thing that seems to play the file is VLC Media Player

This is the message I got from Windows Media Player
"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player."

Any suggestions?

I want to edit it a little.

only thing i can suggest (as you dont mention it in your post) is that you check that you have the correct codecs installed.

VLC has its own built in codecs, might be why you can play it in that and nothing else.

And dont go installing none of those damn pesky mega codec packs - they are the spunk of the devil

The first thing I did was reinstall the xvid codec, thinknig that might be the problem, but it isn't!

what error msg do you get when you try to load it into vdub?

EDIT:: Plus it might be helpful if you run the file through g-spot and post a screenshot of the results! The more info the better

I just thought i would look through vlc stream info, and noticed it's Divx 3.11, which i never installed on this comp.

That was the problem

after the codec install, it worked fine

i thought it was included in the divx 6 though, or xvid

I forgot the release was back in 2002, where xvid was uncommon
