Nice PAL release,
on XboX plays great.
V=9.3
A=9.0

Good SCREAM rip, cheers!

I dont like the bitrate on this. I dont know exactly what it is but they added in a few audio tracks.

v (for a dvdrip): 7
a: 10
movie: 7

Wow... I was just asking myself today, "when the F is War of the Worlds coming out?!" and bang. Getting it now with Madagascar, wow, what a weekend coming up. Checked out what I got. PFG! Can't complain...

Will hold me over (and most lilkely mostly everyone else). Last release I had from Scream in PAL (Batman Begins) looked better than the damn NTSC version. Similar bitrates and all, just the PAL looked better. I'm personally hanging onto this and buying the retail. Only thing that irks me about this movie is Tom Cruise and his psycho church thing... Really gets me for some reason. Oh well

Video 8.5/10 - Definitely upper shelf stuff. Honestly, I'm just too picky. Score is made up based on how I felt at the time But I agree, bitrate could have been another 200+kb/sec more.

Good eye candy movie. Man, Dakota is hot Kidding... Just seeing if anyone actually reads these posts

::EDIT - Man... I watched the whole movie... Video wasn't as good as the beginning... I hate they 500 meg play buttons (aka: the menu), and the fact they really hurt video. The graininess is on the film and not much you can do about that even with the retail. Hopefully R1 will be better, but not holding my breath. But my video score is being knocked down to 7.5 because I wasn't impressed (as bad as the Episode 3 video actually, and that wasn't good).::

I hate R3, they are appreciated for about 2 weeks then are given away. This honestly looks kinda bad, the usual dark crappy transfer. And i too watched on an xbox with rgb out....

7/8/6

Ok, but this is an R2 and PAL Completely different than the cheapy R3s (which in many cases are as good as the R1).

But R2 is the best PAL version usually and the best UK will have. And aguably better video that R1 But we won't re-open that can of worms again.

were u just bragging that you watched this dvdr on a xbox with rgb out??? Im sorry but that is nothing to brag about. I watched this release on a Denon DVD-2910 with a Sony KD34XBR960 and i thought it pretty good. It is nothing to scoff at. interested in seeing how it will compare with a R1 ntsc release.

sorry to flame, but xbox RGB to anything is nothign to brag about.

Anyways

V: 7
A: 8
M: 6

basically same score as you, but i grade very hard, 10 is near impossible, so basically i have a 9 point scale

Release NFO says that bitrate is 4350kbit avg. (CCE, 5 passes) and that there's only 1 audio track: English 5.1

Some movies are just not optimal for DVD and this one's clearly one of 'em. Should be watch at the pictures or not at all.

v: 6
a: 9 (just DD5.1)
m: 3

Ok just got this and you can tell from the start its been reencoded. I love the fact I have this before retail but I have to agree with Porco that I will buy this retail when it comes out
Ive seen many versions of "War of the Worlds" including the other two independant versions that came out in the same year...but this is the best version...even though its nothing like the book but sometimes that isnt a bad thing.
Anyway video 7.5 (havent seen retail yet though and slightly better than the telecine... audio 9...not much of an audiophile myself but hey...film 7.

Posted by elamericano on 10-28-2005 10:58 PM:

the audio 8, video 6, pixels are very noticeable in certain spots, like in the river scene....good job for being first and thanks

Posted by _jadakiss on 10-28-2005 11:05 PM:

judgin by the sample ... looks pretty good .... guess we can compare when we get the R1 ... now .. a question on this.. and this might sounds stupid to some...

what does it mean when its an

R3
R2
R1

releases .. can someone please explain this to me ..... thanx

Video- 8
Audio- 9
Movie- 9

R1 R2 and R3 deal with the region coding. US dvd players play back Region 1 dvds.

Picture is extremely grainy.

Yes it is, but no encoder that I know adds grain during encoding. So most likely the source is grainy too. I DO hope that this is just an R2 crappy treatment and that the R1 is going to be better. Nothing worse that poorly encoded grainy video. We'll have to wait probably a week or two for the R1 and see what happens there.

Not the best film ive seen but ok i guess lol

Posted by jamesbee on 11-01-2005 11:05 PM:

The image breaks up when I view it on my Harmon/Kardon DVD 22.

Certain parts of the picture pixelate into green. Seems to happen on fast movements mostly.

I tried on 3 different disks, all the same.

Bad encode? I never had a problem before with hundreds of movie tests and even my own rips.

Posted by gibber9583 on 11-03-2005 02:22 AM:

Sounds like bad burn / bad discs. This typically happens when disc is messed up, bad lens, or bad burn. What kind of discs are you using anyway?

This release had no encode problems, although not greatest VQ.

Only just got around to watching this properly. I have to say this rls looks like shit on a decent player and TV. I too have very similar problems to James and for the record it is not a bad burn like Gibber said, it just very poor encode.

V=4
A=9
M=4

Blocks up real bad looks more like a transcode rather than a reencode
