These Canadian DVDs are just as good as the USA ones, no complaints. I just print the R1 covers.

Long live Republic haha...
This is the worst of the bunch quality wise. <-- NOT SAYING THIS SUCKS... Just out of the last 4-5 releases, ordering them from best to worst. Quite a good streak though.
First I must say the original source to this must have been incredible. The quality of this release is perfect other than standard re-encoding stuff, and consider a fairly low bitrate for a full 1.85:1 movie, it turned out quite nicely.
Video 7.5/10 - Picky as usual. 3.7 gigs for a 119min 1.85 movie with commentary jammed in there also + 600 megs of deleted scenes. I would have loved to see how good this could have been and I probably will end up renting it myself. Definitely a nice job.
DVD-R 7/10 - Of course I am rating it as a movie only sort of release. Maybe recode those deleted scenes? 600 megs was excessive for that IMO. Of course commentary also... But for those that enjoy the extras, this one is for you. Release could have been 4600kbit/sec (menu + movie only).
Good release either way + 3 weeks early! Movie is OK for those that read the books/stories.
I agree with porco on this one....the source must have been outrageously good. With the bitrate this had, it still looks good. Will have to grab dvd9 when available.
V: 8
A: 8
M: 7 (it was ok)

Yes, excellent video, no choice on the audio, english 5.1
Movie didn't do well in theaters, probably because people thought it would be Grimms fairy tales, and when it wasn't, no one took the kids - too grim a story for them. (pardon the pun)
9/9/7

I seemed to have trouble extracting the rars correctly. First time the sound was out of synch on my Pioneeer DV-575A stand-alone. Second time the opening scene was still a bit out but I think that was on the original? Rest was fine. Still should've been DTS from the outset.

Quite liked it. More of a mild chuckle than a belly laugh. Some of my friends took an instant dislike to it so I guess it works for some but not for others. The extras aren't that good but I'm grateful to Replica for giving me the opportunity to decide that for myself.
EDIT: the synch issue appears to be related to my Pioneer DV-575A. My earlier DV-350 played the same discs without problems. That and other problems with recent Pioneer's such as poor resolution vie RGB scart, slow reaction time and intrusive mechanism noise means I couldn't recommend one to anybody.
