OK so you can see the top of the "FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION" now and again,So what.
The video is quality, the audio is quality and the film is quality.
Nobody mentions that the audio is DOLBY 5.1.
How many rips come along this fast and of this quality?

Not many.

My ratings for this are :-)

Video -- 9.5
Audio -- 10.0
Film -- 9.0

Nice release from Pride, good stuff.

Video - Crisp and clear, good transfer. No noticeable pixellation, colours holdup well. Has "For Your Consideration" as a watermark every 15minutes, lasting for 15seconds. This, as has been said before, has been cropped to leave about an 1/8th of what it would be.

However i cannot see the necessary reason for taking this out and therefore cropping that amount of picture. Ok fair enough there is less copyright message, but it is not like it is there constantly, only for a brief amount of time. So im going to guess there was some more detail hidden as well as what seems obvious..............but a minor qualm on an otherwise fine picture.

Audio - all good, nuff said.

Movie - Very well written story, divulging the intricacies of a japanese pastime. Is a little slow paced, but includes enough detail to keep watching, second CD really brings it all together. I enjoyed it, worth a watch if you like Asian cinema.

Yep, that's exactlly what I was thinking when I watched this. It's more annoying than normal watermarks because it's cut like that, they should have just cut the other 10 pixels or whatever. Otherwsie a very nice rls for a film that bored the hell out of me.

8/9/5

very nice. audio & video are great. 2CD with AC3 always rules

as for the "for your consideration" message...yeah they might have been able to get away with cropping the rest of it off since it's just a few pixels more to crop. but they could not have left it all there because it obviously would extend into the "black bar" at the bottom, which definately needed to be cropped out.
overall i'm happy the message was placed so low by the studio so that most of it could be cropped off with the black bars. no b&w either

movie, haven't read the book, but enjoyed the film.

9/9/8.5

were there suppose to be english subs at the beginning of the movie? i couldnt understand what they were saying for the first couple minutes and then the english naratioin kicks in. Any seen this in the theatre know if the movie has subs at certain spots?

9/10/?? not finished yet

9.8.8 good quality, the cut off consideration part was not really an issue, movie was visually good but not very factual

Posted by Red_Tides99 on 12-30-2005 09:13 AM:

All I want to comment on is the cropping on the bottom. If you notice during the movie the top of the "message" is off-center. This is because to the right of it and a bit smaller is a serial# that is used to show the source. Many of the Academy screeners given out this year have a unique serial# embedded in them. Thems the shakes.

Enjoyable movie.

Vid - 9
Aud - 9
Movie - 8

Had a feeling this was going to be the reason.

Lets hope these award screeners continue coming in, fingers crossed for Brokeback Mountain.

Other than the watermark, excellent screener. Nice vidio, good sound, decent movie, tho' really not like the book which went into intricate details on geisha life.
But that would have made a 6-8 hour mini series.

Did NOT like the movie - too long and boring in my opinion.
