From Sample, Excellent Picture, Sound crap very tinny and Hollow. Movie v/good (Seen another copy)

9/4/8.5

Best telecine I've ever seen, better than the Two For The Money one who someone put out a while ago.

Video = 9 (but probably the best I'm likely to see in telecine form)
Audio = 7 (adaquate)
Movie = good

If someone didn't know the source this could be passed off as a DVD rip and that person would be none the wiser.

Persons who know about this stuff would probably be able to differentiate/identify it though.

It is amazing how high this is being scored for sound, I think a lot are being a bit generous. The sound is very hollow and tinny. no bass at all.
More than made up by the picture quality though, well done ASTEROiDS!

are you sure you're not referring to the original asteroids TC release? although it was clear, the audio on that release was hollow and tinny, just as you described.

while the audio on this release isn't perfect, it's a huge improvement on the original release.

after skimming through full release:

v - 10 (best video i've seen on a TC)
a - 7 (a huge improvement, but sounds somewhat muddled)
m - ? (yet to watch)

Posted by RickySway on 03-16-2006 12:12 PM:

sure the video quality is good, great even for TC standards.... but the audio is still no better than a ts or cam.

It's all treble, no bass.... all icky and sticky, muflled and unclear. So i'm gonna wait for the DVD.

Its not like the movie is that great anyway

As I said, yes the picture is good but the sound is very hollow and tinny. Agree with you.

Just a short little review with my impressions:

Video - 9.9: Seriously, when you have to wonder if this is really a TC rather than a DVD rip then you're looking at a damn good TC. Video is crisp, colors are vibrant. No light/dark areas, no weird edges. The only reason I wouldn't vote this a 10 is because there's a "hair" at the very top of the screen, towards the middle, for a while. It's almost unnoticable, yet it's still there. But that's it. Seriously. That is the only problem with this video. I wouldn't be surprised if the DVD doesn't look any better than this.

Audio - 6: It's not that there's anything majorly wrong with the audio that you can identify, it's just that it sounds... off. Maybe a little wavery here and there, certainly a bit tinny at times. Mostly it sounds like the audio you'd get on a really old VHS tape. However, what kills it -- and yes, I will beat this into everyone's brains if I have to go door to door -- is the fact that the audio has been sped up. Yes, I understand that most of the world uses 25fps for their DVD video. Yes, I understand the best way to convert the video is to simply speed up a movie. However, speeding up a movie to match 25fps on a DivX release is completely unnecessary. The entire point of DivX/XviD releases is that they are to be played primarily on a computer, not a TV. The framerate they are at is irrelevant. Therefore, speeding up the audio in the process of converting the framerate is both unnecessary and destructive.

Movie - 6: Eh, it wasn't really what the sequel to Underworld should have been. It wasn't exactly bad in itself, but it failed where the first suceeded. Hopefully the next movie will be much better; y'know, get a kind of Blade - Blade II - Blade Trinity thing going here with the Underworld series.

Bottom Line: This is the release to get right now, unless Asteroids finds a better audio source or until a DVD screener hits.

judging by the sample (not done DL yet) consering its a TC, the audio is good. but if you're comparing it with dolby digital, of course you're going to be dissappointed with the audio.

both the audio and video are WAY superior to the first release. moreso the video.

my rating goes by considering that its a TC, not a DVD rip.

video - 10
audio - 8
movie - 7.5 (rounded to 8)
