Top 10 Movie DISAPPOINTMENTS of 2006

Not necessarily the worst movies (though it could be if that's what it is to you), but the movies that weren't all that you expected them to be or were hyped way beyond what they delivered. Anything that left you feeling a little nonplussed...

1. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance - just not a patch on 'Mr'...still not in any way a bad movie...just much less than I expected.

2. Superman Returns - again, was expecting MORE, MORE, MORE than I felt it delivered. What Batman Begins did for the Batman franchise I don't think SR did for SM. Still not a bad movie, and there were a couple of scenes I loved (the space shuttle for one), just not as much as it could've been.

3. X3 -

4. Cars - the first 'really good' Pixar movie. IMO all that preceded were 'excellent'.

5. MI3 - nice opening, the China bit was good, the rest left me 'meh'....and the end was atrocious...I don't want chicks with pop-guns, I want fucking ballistic missiles!

6. The Departed - I enjoyed it, it was a good movie, but it's not anywhere near Goodfellas, and State of Grace, (the original) Infernal Affairs, and a whole heap of Jap/Korean/HK yakuza/triad/gangster movies would make it ahead The Departed in my list.

I'll add more as I remember them.

I agree with you on The Departed. Never compare movies to "legends", always a mistake. Just like what they've done over the past few years against the original Exorcist.

X3 - Was ok, just not great, as it should have been

Superman Returns - Dross

Babel - Bleh

Lets go to Prison - Should have been funnier/funny, Gob Bluth deserves better scripts.

School for Scoundrels - blat

Borat aside its been a very unfunny year. Fingers are crossed for 'Night at the Museum', trailer looks great and its got Coogan and Gervais.

got to agree, it looks promising. Borat was excellent. High-five.

On topic, Superman Returns. Thought it was boring.

In fairness, I didn't really have that many expectations for the year so don't really have much to complain about. Lack of films I found funny I guess, but that seems pretty common these days, but the fratpack offering of Taladega Nights wasn't as good as recent years (but it was OK). I personally liked Superman a lot, and found X3 decently entertaining. Super Ex Girlfriend was as horrifically bad as the trailer made it look, which was a shame considering the cast, and Scary Movie 4 was utter shite. Surprise surprise.

Borat was decent of course, found that funny.. I'm hoping to look thru decembers limiteds and find some stuff there that I like, like last year (Thumbsucker, The Baxter, stuff like that).

#1 worst move this year was Superman Returns, I fucking hated this film, I think Spacey is a fantastic actor but he doesn't fit the part of Lex at all. Doesn't do it for me. I tried watching it twice hated it more the second time.

#2 worst movie this year was X3, It was great at the beginning but it started going to shit near the middle. I haven't wanted to watch it again, But I did and felt the same way.

#3 Eragon which was not that good, The tv spots made it look cool, I guess just because it was Dragons, But it was about on par with X3, Still 10x better than superman Returns.

#4 Cars, I could not get into this movie at all, My gf didn't like it either, It wasn't funny. I liked one line in the movie, "i'm in hillbilly hell" that was the only line I liked.

Movies that need not mention like Scary movie 4, Since when was any of those funny? I couldn't handle the 4th one, My GF even turned it off, She hated it, and she likes those stupid comedies. Super X GF was better than Superman Returns but still shit. I tend to try and stay away from retarded movies.

DVC escapes my list simply because I wasn't expecting anything from it... http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.ph...highlight=vinci

And it delivered almost exactly what I thought it would: an awful lot of nothing.

Every movie based on a book (I've read) makes my list (of bad movies) everytime. Da Vinci Code. Case closed.

Have to agree about X3, though Superman Returns I really enjoyed. I think to many fans of the originals (which I saw in the theatre) expected more of the same.

How about Lord of the rings? It was based on a book? How about any of the Harry potter movies? Those again based on books.

I loved superman and superman 2, But after that they went to shit, The 3rd was ok with Richard pryor but wasn't that good. Superman returns and superman 4 were about on par with each other
