list..think this is final...
You can tell this was a shit year.
Pan's Labryinth was nominated for 6 awards, But not best picture, Nor was Children of Men.
The academy awards is fucking shit.
The departed was good but not that great
Babel again was good but not that great
I still wanna see Letters from Iwo Jima
The Queen I hear is really good
Little miss Sunshine I hear is good. Really good.

*thanks* for the words p. !!!
i haven't seen pan's l. yet but from what i've read of it here at vcd and reviews. a movie of this type could be the best movie ever and would still be unlikley to get a nom.
but the higher profile it's getting because of the oscars is helping box office and i think will make it a dvd hit.....
i haven't seen 'the queen' or 'babel' and i have no interest in seeing 'letters' (hey that may be lame/but that's me..)
ok the 'the departed' i agree with you on this.
i think if martin s. wins(best director) it will have alot to do with here's a award for your lifetime of good movies.than 'the departed' just being 300% 'better' than everything else.....
and if he finally wins it comes via a 'remake'..i'nspired by' another movie.who would have thought that ???
also if 'the departed' wins best picture/ will we get 17 remakes of asian action films in 2008-2009 ????
especially with 'the departed' being the oscar nom with the best box office...
'little miss sunshine' think this is seen as more of a comedy especially when compared to the other noms...and when was the last time a 'comedy' won best picture ???(and yes i know 'sunshine' had lots of drama elements..)
'babel' well to paraphrase a pro it's hard to imagine the academy going a 'crash' type picture two years in a row.so hmm.....
'the queen' almost all the attention in the states about this movie is going to helen m.
so i have no idea of it chances for a best picture win.......
unlike last year when it seem from the start it came down to 'crash' vs 'brokeback' it alot more wide open this year...... ??????
i still don't think the general public is too enthused about this years choices.(yep it's going to be another year of ' i never heard of that movie..' or they'll just *yawn*) but there's 30 other tv awards shows that better reflect their views.i'm ready for feb 23.
"also if 'the departed' wins best picture/ will we get 17 remakes of asian action films in 2008-2009 ????"
To late.

to late???? *arrrgh*......
anyway pan's l./children of men not getting a best picture nom....
well it seems that none of the late/last second push for a nom pics... eg
dreamgirl's/pan's l./children of men/notes on a scandal. etc.... got a best picture nom.....
but look what got best pic noms films that came out earlier and that had months to build support.......
i really doubt the queen would have got a best pic nom *if* it came in dec.
but let's look at last year too. what were for best picture noms??
crash/brokeback/good night and good luck/capote/munich...
didn't these come out earlier/ and most cases just like this year thier u.s.a. box office run was over and they had months to build support. nope, none of this last minute release and getting a best pic nom......
hey this seems unfair to good films ala children of men. but yeah at least it's unfair to every film......
seems it better to get your film out early and risk being forgotten...
than put out late and seemingly have no chance no matter how good your film is ????
I thought Letters From Iwo Jima was by far the best movie of the year. Of course, I only saw the TFF version of Pan's Labyrinth, which was not perfect.
The Departed will probably win, which is stupid because it brought nothing new to Infernal Affairs except Jack Nicholson, who isn't even nominated himself. I'd give Scorcese best director, though, as a lifetime achievement if nothing else.
Also, I found The Queen and Babel both pretty boring and Dreamgirls not Oscar-worthy. How can that film, btw, have 3 noms for best song? What about Spoon?
Babel Vs Brokeback mountain . Is it even possible to decide which of those 2 shitty pieces of cinema is worse?
Like last year when Sin City was overlooked, an equal, if less surprising, tragedy has occured this year with 'The Inside Man' being ignored.
little miss sunshine is my pic for best picture
And i think Peter o'toole will win one because he is getting on and they normally look after the elderly
Helen mirren is a certainty
Mark Wahlberg for best support
Abigail Breslin for best female support

jaded.... the marky mark over jack nicholson....well that my have *surprised* the nation a bit.....
also if anyone wins for the departed will they mention infernal affairs in their acceptance speech ????
and i agree with on the dreamgirls not being best pic oscar worthy...and did it really get 3 best song noms ??? that is tooo many indeed......
cupid.... i'm really curious which did you dislike more brokeback or babel ??? somehow i'm leaning towards your having a stronger dislike of....babel...
and don't worry next year will bring another film you really hate.so you can have a trilogy....
re: inside man.... thanks for reminding me of that.
i think everyone 'forgot' it. didn't that come out(in the states) in jan. ????? forgotten/ignored or just not 'considered' i don't think i saw one oscar prediction list that mentioned inside man, hmm...
clive was pretty good in that too...
v bitter if sunshine wins your the one that got the ball rolling.
i haven't seen venus..yep i'm lame..but how could i not 'vote' for peter o'toole after reading this....
"who else could bring such dignity to the scene where he tries to lick the girls finger after she rams it into her snatch ?"
Babel or Brokeback? You are right, I am leaning towards Babel, I thought it was utter dross. Seeing as films I detest seem to do well at the Academy Awards I expect it will sweep the board.
I hear Forest Whitaker is a dead cert for best actor. Haven't seen Last King of Scotland yet, you seen it yet? Whats the verdict?
I have seen all the others and from what I have seen I think Djimon Hounsou should win best supporting actor for Blood Diamond, (Even though his part was equal if not more leading than Di Caprio's). Pan's Labryinth should win in its category hands down, Helen Mirren was excellent as the queen, not my kind of movie but it was great acting and none of the other nominees have stood out quite so much.
Little Miss Sunshine for Screenplay
Jesus Camp should win for Documentary but I think it will be An Inconvenient Truth, it plays to the emotions of the smug Hollywood types.
Of the rest
Liked
Apocolypto, The Prestige, The Illusionist(Good to see Ed Norton back to his best) and Notes on a Scandal. Hope they do well.

you all embarass me, meatspin should win for best drama. best comedy is the obvious 'meatball' video. worst picture of the year would have to be youareallgay..and best documentary, imho, thewillpower..we can all learn a lot from his way of life.
motherman deserves honorable mention as the daily struggle we all have to wake up to..
thank you, pleaSe consider me as a voter for next year..
I went to the theater and saw Letters from Iwo Jima. Fantastic film. That maybe my #1 for the year.

cupid... nope i haven't seen last king.
supposedly forest's golden globe acceptance specch may hurt his chance for the best male actor oscar. seems very lame but very possible....
i also pry for a jesus camp win for best documentary.
baha, i think there was unofficial make sure mel's movie got no major oscar nom movement this year.
and since apocalypto didn't do major box office made it easier to 'ignore' (but yet i think it did better state side box office than *babel* go figure...)
well it's all over now. happy with the results ????
Well the one thing that really pissed me off was the two wins for The Departed
director....not his best film by a wide bloody margin
best film...not the best film by another bloody wide margin
(how children of men didn't end up in that category still bewilders me)
oh well "the machine" needs to feed itself i suppose
i read whoever markets/distributes 'children' put all there support behind 'united 93'
voters noticed so they didn't care if 'children' got a fair chance or not...
i also see the best director/pic thing as having a 'body of work' vibe for martin s.
but really whatever won best pic this year there was going to be alot of unpeople.....
