Rated as a DVD9 R1 Untouched

V:7 - SLIGHTLY grainy, and sometimes theres like this jaggy effect? It looks like a wavy line that horizontally goes down the screen at times
A: 10
M: 10

[...] It's a damn dvd9 - the video can ONLY be a 10 :-p If it hasn't been downsampled by anyone other than the studio, there is no better PQ in existence, thus a 10. So unless you're rating your dvdr's compared to HDDVD, [...]

V : 10
A : 10
M : 8.8

Ok theres something seriously wrong with the Retail dvd this dvd9 has the same blocky pixals in the same parts of the movie!
dont get me wrong though ..the other good scenes of the movie look great though and the dvd9 is an improvement!
Wanna see this crap add .vob to the end of rar08 its one of the worst parts and see all the blockyness and blur ..if all the retails get released like this someones ass is geting canned and this is going down in dvd history books

10 for Curious's release cause they did nothing wrong
10
9.5 one of the best flicks of 2006

I'm shocked , I checked out rar8 the aliasing is mental. To be frank, the PQ looks like total ass!

Ive said this many times, and i will keep saying it.

Bollocks!!!!!!!!

Why can it only be a 10, you rate the picture quality against other Retail DVD9's and this one only deserves a 7, untouched doesn't mean a thing, have you actually saw this then, because your review doesn't prove you have, as its yet another NFO reviewer, and you have given this a 10, so someone sees your post, goes oh, Bongloads says its a 10, it must be perfect, and discovers it looks like crap.

Bongloads, id say Bongless would be better, as i think its affecting your eyes.

Hopefully the Region2 looks better than this.

7/9/7

Edit: I have the Region3 Retail on order, which also has DTS on it, im hoping that is better, but very dubious now.

Hey newbie read my post ..i said the dvd9 was an improvement ,and is much better throughout the movie..of course it is though its not compressed ..compressing extensifys any bad video quality it has from the start

And we are rating on the Ripper/encoders quality that they have done to the release in these forums
NOT the dvd that you will buy quality so this is not a 7 i have burnt it and it is untouched everything and plays perfect so its a 10 unless you can say that they screwed up somethig when they released it! or didnt take out extras to make quality better

Redemption is absolutely right. Giving an automatic 10 to untouched video is B.S. despite what you or anyone else says.

LOL TRU DAT

Re-Rating:

V:8 - Jaggy lines only happened for a short time in beginning, 8 due to the bad pixelation / grainyness for a DVD9
A:9 - No DTS, but 10 for AC3
M:10

After watching the entire film on my 50" HDTV I still cant believe this is a retail DVD9. Bitrate via MPC was reported as 7.5mbit/sec , via powerdvd I saw it go between 5.8 - 6.5mbit/sec. The PQ is very poor indeed for such a high bitrate, its somewhat fuzzy/blurry, lots of video noise, aliasing and flicker is evident through out the film and is terrible in some scenes. Also compression artifacts popup now and then. If this is truly the retail version that is on sale now , I cant wait to see some of the reviews on the PQ. Goes down as one of the worst DVD transfers in recent history

V-6 look more like a TC than a DVD9 retail

Damn straight! If you went to Blockbuster right now you would be just looking at a poster for the movie since it won't be in Blockbuster until the Feb 13, 2007 But I bet the poster will look better than the quality on this disc.

Anyways... I too am disappointed with this DVD though. The first 15 mins I wanted to throw something at my screen. It was awful video. Then the picture got better. More blurrly but less artifacting... But still pretty craptacular... Such a good movie, and they do this to it.

I wonder, maybe there will be a special post Oscars Super Edition that comes out and will include a gun in the packaging. They did it with Basic Instinct (ice pick)... Or maybe they want people to buy HD-DVD or BD-ROM discs...

I guess we'll see if this really is what they say it is (R1) on Feb 13...
