from the sample, colours are a bit washed out, but still very clear, sound is really good and in sync, you just know the movie is going to be great!! 6/7/probably10

It doesn't look too bad from the sample. Not too colourful, but I'm sure that won't detract too much from the film. As long as it' s in sync all the way, I'll be happy.

7/7/?

by cam standards it's not that bad i've seen worse

Went to see this last night in the cinema, well worth the money.

Nuke time, missing 2-3 mins at start, which gives a recap of Angels' life up until now. Basically sums up how he was the best fuzz ever (and in training) with a 400% arrest rate over his fellow coppers.

Shouldn't this should be over 2cd's?

Not bad for a cam, watchable for sure, but I would have waited for better if I had not seen it on the big screen (which I was always going to).

7 - washed out, cropped on left.
7 - better than average cam
9 - 1 point less than Shaun.

Im not gonna watch all this release cos of the missing 2 minutes, i'll wait for a better release.

Anyway from the sample
V7: Not bad for a cam, very watchable just missing 2 minutes.
A7: Clear for a cam can understand what people are saying etc.
M???? waiting for a release with the first 2 minutes added.

Watchable

Well it's definitely watchable, and listenable, and considering how goddamn awesome this movie is you should definitely watch it.

Video - 6: For a cam, this has issues. It's watchable for the most part, but there are some issues. Firstly, the compression is crap: macroblocks everywhere, probably due to the low light levels in the theater. Secondly, the significant left-side cropping is annoying at times, considering a number of visual gags seem to occur on the left side of the screen where you can't see. Thirdly, the camera goes out of focus several times, particularly in the darker scenes; obviously the camera was set to auto-focus, which is a bad move on the part of the cammer. Finally, there is an odd "temporal blur" which is applied to the film. For 90% of the content you won't notice, but in the action scenes, particularly the fights where the film's camerawork gets jerky, it's all but impossible to see what's going on at times. Now on the positive side, since the film is a european film it was filmed and displayed in the theater at 25fps, and since this was captured on a 25fps cam the video is free of the usual "motion blur" we all know and love. (Though replaced with a different, less annoying type as mentioned above)

Audio - 8: For a cam it's pretty clean. Not very hollow or echoey or even particularly tinny. There's some occasional background noise when people laugh, but I only remember three occasions when I could make out audience members laughing, and it wasn't particularly obvious. I am irritated at CAMERA for how they encoded the audio however: this is audio from a monaural source, and yet the file uses a 128kbps *stereo* mp3. It isn't even joint stereo either, which means that you're basically listening to a 64kbps mono mp3 soundtrack for double the space. I doubt the higher bandwidth would have made much listenable difference in the quality, but the principle of the matter makes this maddening. Hell, I think technically it's nuke-worthy.

Movie - 9.9: Funniest, most awesome goddamn film I've seen in a while. It's pretty much funny all the way through, though some of it is excessively dry for short bits. The action scenes are really quite well done, just as high quality as the original films that the scenes are mercilessly mocking. Honestly, I think this movie is better than Shaun of the Dead.

Bottom Line: If you really, really need to see this film RIGHT NOW then this release is perfectly acceptable. However, the focus and blur issues with the video, as well as the missing first few minutes of the film, might make it worth holding off until a better source comes around. True, it's only a few minutes of missing footage, but considering how funny the rest of the film is I bet those are two excessively funny minutes all the same.

I just watched the entire thing and kinda wished i waited for a better quality copy. I wanted to watch it pretty bad though after seeing the trailer.

v6- washed out, dark, left side noticeably cropped off. Camera looses focus. Still watchable, but i missed alot of the jokes trying to figure what im looking at in the dark scenes.

a8- audio pretty good for a cam, its not hallow like most cam audio is. Surprising not alot of background noise either, just a few small laughs.

m9- i liked it. I seen shawn of the dead and i liked this better. Ill probably enjoy it more with a better copy.

Awesome movie. Edgar Wright is probably one of the most underrated and underappreciated writers/directors out there. He's come up trumps again and I'm very much looking forward to his fake trailer in Grindhouse.

Not quite as good as Shaun Of The Dead for me, but I'm a horror lover so that's probably why.

ok now im REAL confused.....ive downloaded the camera and the orcquality versions and then i found "HOT FUZZ DVD CAM XVID DVD-DOG" and this version has 2 mins missing at the start but the quality is WAY better than the other 2 ? strange

anyways my stats for THIS camera version is :-

V - 5
A - 7
M - about to watch but i bet when i edit this post i'll say 10

Posted by emoheadbanger on 02-21-2007 03:54 AM:

V: 7-For a cam this is pretty darn good. Slight jittering and the camera going out of focus throughout mar it from getting any higher than a 7.
A: 7-For a cam this has pretty darn good sound as well. Not much bass during the action scenes and not too tinny either, it's just right and the dialogue is understandable for the most part.
M: 9-I was disappointed, being such a big fan of "SOTD", but this one was still a good action comedy, that will satisfy enough fans, if they don't have their hopes too high (like I did). The 2 minutes missing doesn't really stop you from enjoying the film either. I definitely enjoyed getting to see the movie before the US release date though! Hats off to CAMERA for this.
