Star Trek XI

Release: Dec 25th 2008
Director: JJ Abrams (MI:3, 'Lost')
Cast: Not yet
Plot: "The latest feature, which has yet to be named, will tell of Kirk and Spock's first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first outer space mission."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6407135.stm

Without the baggage of the old cast and with the chance to start anew I'm predicting big things for this movie.

I grew up with Star Trek - it used to be on Tuesday's at 7.25pm(?) on BBC1 (I couldn't tell you what was before (news?) or after, but that's when Star Trek was on), and then when Sky1 started showing it every night I remember rushing home after school to tape it - but I'm not really a 'Trekkie', I couldn't tell you what episode was what, or who said what and when. But I do like it.

Well I'm a fan of Star Trek and if I'm honest my GF is a "full on" Trek fan.

No, she doesn't dress as Uhura (more's the pity) nor does she visit conventions but she does have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the show and she also has every movie and box set across all of the various "Treks" - in other words, we (she) has the whole fucking lot!

Personally I'm a fan of the original series simply for the comedy value but I enjoyed all the others, although I got a little bored with DS9.

I reckon Star Trek could do with a new direction though, I'd also prefer any new series they concoct to be a little grittier instead of all the clean-cut uniforms and pristine starships we're used to*

*In other words, Star Trek should become more like Battlestar Galactica - which is a show that finally out-trekked Trek

I never understood the dedication(sometimes obsession) of startrek fans.I suppose it takes a true fan to understand?Still the clip however short looks like the new movie could be worth a look .

Not a huge trek fan myself but I did watch the "Next Generation" series. I think thats the one it was called, with Jean Luc Picard as the captain. Speaking of which, is that the same guy talking in the teaser as Jean Luc Picard. I am not sure. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing this. I was impressed with JJ Adams and his work on Cloverfield. Be interesting to see what he does here.

Who's JJ Adams? I think you should just leave the forum now before cupidstunt retaliates to your other post in the pink. Or before Ave starts at you.

Ha, Adams, Abrams... whatever... typos happen. As for them, I assure you I am not concerned of their opinions. Either way, does anyone know if that is the Jean Luc Picard guy talking in the teaser. If so, I wonder if hes in this film.

How come, if the ongoing mission is to boldly go where no one has been before, there's always someone waiting there for them?

TBH I'm not really interested in Star Trek although I do remember being subjected to a drunken conversation with a lad who insisted on listing every Trek female and what he would like to do to them.

Thats not Picard in the teaser...its Leonard Nimoy who plays Spock.
