2400+ not able to do HD well enough, need help looking for a better mobo and cpu
I know I have been over this and over this recently, But I am at it again.
Can anyone suggest a mobo and cpu that can handle hd content with ease and use the same shit that I currently have in my machine?
EIDE hard drive
266, pc2700 and/or pc3200.
AGP 4x and 8x
I am looking to spend maybe $120

What kind of HD content? Decoding H.264 is more CPU intensive than MPEG-2 - a Core 2 duo is recommended.
I downloaded a 720p ep of Heroes and it looked really good, but It lagged enough to make it unwatchable.
I can view 720p wmv files without problem.
Right now I can't afford a dual core, unless I got a Pentium D, and at that it would be a low end. I'm thinking of a 3200+ or a p4 3.20ghz.
according to the specs of what I found those cpu's should be able to handle the hd content.
I just want to be able to watch HD tv shows, and some movies.

i just built an HTPC for HD movies. wasn't cheap but here's what I got
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo
Corsair 2x1024MB DDR2 800 RAM
XFX Fatal1ty 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E GPU
you'll need a MINIMUM of the 7600GT PCI-E series for BD/HD-DVD playback and a dual-core would really help
When I was watching 720p x264 movies on my athlon 64 3700 cpu usage was like 80% now it's like 15-20%
