Starting a .EXE on startup

Anyone know a program that will start an .exe fill on startup of XP like a service? I found a program scheduler but it starts up at the same time every night so I get 4 or 5 instances of the same program running if I don’t reboot for a few days.

.... put the said exe in the startup folder? make a registry key for it?

It's a doddle...

1. Go START>All Programs
2. Right click the Startup folder, select "Explore" or "Explore all users" depending on whether it should autostart for you or for everybody.
3. Copy the shortcut to the .exe (or the .exe itself if you want to be untidy) into the Startup folder.

That works Neversoft but it just leaves the .exe sitting on the desktop open. I was hoping i could get it to just launch the program in the background so i wouldn't have to see it starting. What im trying to accomplish is getting my wap proxy to always be running when my computer is on. The proxy im using is HoTTProxy i'm even open to any suggestions on another program this one works really nice and is free.

You'll need Firedaemon, used it before to run Windrop on a Windows box.

I doubt it's free, so either look for a substitute or make it happen.

Right-click the icon you've created in the startup folder and select properties. Now, in the "Run" section, set it to minimized... Or check if theres a command line switch for your program that gets it to terminate and stay resident (old-schoolers are no doubt now in fear of my 1337 acronym-defining powers!)

Thanks for all the help I got it working perfectly with Firedaemon.

THought i'd add to this, you can always use windows xp (pro) little gem of a utility called "gpedit.msc". Type it into the command line.

Switch to User > Admin > System > Logon and you can add as many programs you want to startup at the beginning.

Unless you're fairly tech-savvy I'd avoid the Group Policy Editor to be honest, you can do some weird shit in there... Better to use one of the many system configuration tools out there like TuneUp Utilities. I think some free apps like Emsisoft's HijackFree also allows editing and creation of startup programs in some of Windows "stranger" nooks and crannies..
