Aduio Ripping
does anyone have a good easy to use prog that can rip sound from an avi file? theres a short piece of music im after and i dont know whats good to use to rip it!

basically i want to be able to watch an avi then just press a key to start recording the sound while im still watching the avi and then another to stop recording....?

Use adobe audition (formally cool edit pro)
Its as simple as what your asking for, play the avi then press record and it will record the audio, press stop and it will stop recording.
Or you could use virtualdub and open the avi, get it to the bit where your sample is and save it as a mp3 or wav file.

Vdubs good for that too. That's what I use to do what you want.
Vdub = Virtualdub and I am a cock for not reading all of Jules' post.

You could also use TMPGEnc to just convert the audio to a MPEG format, then from there you can use one of the many converters out there to get it to the desired format.
