my old desktop fucked up

iv removed the hardrive from it

im gonna get a external caddy for it

will my laptop recognize it when i plug it in because it isnt formatted ???

It should do. Best thing to do is if you can't see it go to "Disk management" and see if the drive needs initialising.

YES!!! it will recognize and tell you it needs formatting.
