Quake III: Rocket Arena

I know RA3 is an old game, but I just started playing it and was hoping some of you had some good tips for beating the crap outta some of the pros.

I know most of you will just say "practice" and I have been for about 4 months now, but I get my ass handed to me on a daily basis and I want that to stop.

Thanks in advance.

Choose a level and stick with it.Learn it inside out.
Get some decent headphones and listen.
I've heard there are people out there that know exactly where you are by recognizing key sounds from the level.
For example the way stuff is collected. The sounds of the corridor.Shit like that.
Don't think that you can just hide in a corner and get away with it.All the hiding spots are well known in these games and they are the first place people will look to shoot you down.Keep on the move.

And a big fat monitor might help you too.

Why not get a life or a girfriend instead of spending all your time on a game?

/me awaits to be told lies, how he has a life and has had sex.

i am not a gamer. while my machine has proven over and over it can handle whatever i throw at it, i work 12-15 hours a day and spend most of the rest of it with my family. i do not have much time for gaming and have only recently started exploring. one friend said to get an rpg, but i hate fucking stories man.

anyways, another friend had a spare key to RAIII and enjoys watching me suffer, so i tried it. the more i play, the more i like it - even when i lose which is all the time.

hence my original question. if you've never played the game or are not good at it, i would rather not read what you have to say. if you're a troll, i will certainly be amused by your post. if you have played this game and/or are just really good at FPS, i look forward to learning from you.

thanks for the advice olskoolfife. i found a spot where you can just wait for the sound of armor shard and start throwing grenades. also found a guy with 52" plasmas (14 of em) that "fell off the truck" for $1000 each. seriously considering it, but i wonder if he takes plastic. doing a lot better now with the headphones too. thanks again.

How long do you think these other guys have been playing it? Years probably. Practise is the only way you will get better.

If you want to get better, learn circle-strafing and not camping, which is a sure fire way to piss people off and get your arse served to you on a plate.

Or better still, find a girlfriend that will play these games with you as I did. Got my girl hooked on UT, Painkiller Overdose and TF2 which actually works out quite well as I think playing these games makes her even hornier!

Teaching her CSS (been playing CS since the orginally beta in '98) and she seems to be really enjoying the time we spend "fragging" people online.

yeah those pros are assholes when it comes to camping... they hate ppl who aren't as good as they are and refuse to play ppl better. buncha fuckers.

i am new to games and have no idea what cpma is. sorry.

my wife doesn't do games (especially fps) but that's fine by me. a little alone time in a marriage can only help when you have a kid. all i do is work and come home, so it has been kinda nice gettin into a game. and with this new system, all games have been turned all the way up and have been flawless. i never thought 950fps was a possibility. that fligh sim x looks really nice...
