Wii: Rockstar Table Tennis
Hmmmm... I had mixed feelings about this game from the previews, claiming that the control scheme was "broken" and felt wrong. I'd already decided that the game was uglier than David Guest but i was hoping that it might offer a decent table tennis experience - not that I've ever played table tennis, so it could pretty much do whatever the fuck it wanted anyway.
So... Is it good? It's ok. The controls are quite odd and don't feel very responsive. Part of the problem is, they've only done a half-hearted interpretation of what you're doing with the Wiimote and any "tweaking" of your shot is done with combinations of buttons and the analogue stick as opposed to subtle twists of the Wiimote, which basically reduces any Wiimote actions to a simple flailing of your arms. The problem is, the Wiimote is designed as a motion sensitive controller first and a standard controller second and Rockstar haven't embraced this ethos. Yes, I know it's a port rather than being designed from the ground-up for the Wii but if you aren't going to embrace motion control for a game like this, don't bother porting it.
Graphically speaking the game is functional but nothing to write home about. Audio is a similar affair with a simple "it HAS audio" rather than anybody actually giving a shit at any point during the developement process.
Gameplay is fairly good. You can get a few hours enjoyment out of this, especially on two player. In single-player you're constantly reminded about how much you dislike the fucking controls but in two player you're both in the same boat so it's more fun.
Overall it's ok if you pick it up cheap but it really feels like a missed opportunity. here's hoping that next time a game of a similar ilk is produced, the developers play to the Wii's strengths instead of simply shoving the code up the Wii's shitter.
Graphics 5/10 - Weird, gouraud-shaded graphics with little or no textures. Functional at best.
Audio 5/10 - I wasn't expecting anything great but what I got was something shitty.
Gameplay 6/10 - Decent on two player but ultimately frustrating.
Overall 6/10 - It'll do for now but the Wii deserves better.

Was average on the 360 at best so the introduction of a wiimote i dont see bringing a whole new dimension to it.
Interesting review NS, guess i enjoyed it more coz i was half pissed at the time playin' it with mates.
I am bustin' for a good tennis game, anyone have any confirmed titles and release dates? Hopefully whatever is released won't be a piece of shit.

you're a moron.
how can you not see a new dimension to adding the wiimote support into a ping pong game ?!
the game was already great on the 360 and i was expecting something brilliant on wii, with just gayer graphics. apparently it's not the case and i'm very sad about it, i was planning on spending days playing fake pingpong with a wiimote![]()
