osX86

Has anyone attempted to install mac os X on there pc? My AMD64 which has sse2,3 instruction would not attempt to install it. Not sure why. My mother gave me her old Celeron, I was able to install Tiger onto it without any problems, Just as easy as installing a fresh copy of XP. Here are a few pics to show you.

The only problem I am having at this point is the Resolution, it's set to 1024x768 and my monitors native res is 1680x1050, Still looks rather decent though.
The Os didn't recognize my keyboard, so I had to put it in manually M$4000, Works great after that. Sound, Nic work without any problems.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix the resolution?
The onboard video card is "Intel Extreme Graphic"

That is fuckin awesome. I've got tons of old computers that I'm going to try this on this week. New job don't start till monday, so I should be golden.

What kind of performance are you getting from the celeron?

I have installed OSx86 on Dells, compaqs, Acer laptops and a homebrew system with no issues. It is quite tricky in my experience to get it to install on the AMD procs. I found it easier to read some of the osx86 forums and patch my own ISO for the AMD stuff.

As for the graphics. I never needed anything but native 1024x768, so who knows. The driver for the intel graphics adapter you have may be functionally limited in that OS install.

Solution: BUY A Mac!!!!! I did! As a matter of fact, this post was created entirely on my Macbook.

I wish I could buy a Mac. I can't afford shit right now. My AMD64 was a present for my Bday this year.

Make sure that your cpu + mobo can handle the os. There are some guides, just google them. Your cpu must be able to handle sse2 instruction. It would work better if it supports sse2 and sse3. Some apps don't work if you don't have ss3, Well that's what I understand at least.

For some reason my bios didn't want to recognize the hard disk after I installed the os. I got it working though. When it went to boot it said "No Operating system installed" I was pissed.

for an old 2.7ghz 512k/ram it's running rather decent. I just wish I could get the resolution set correct. I may grab a crt, I know we have to have a few laying around somewhere.

I'm typing this post from my Hackintosh. lol.

Also Opera is a bit different with Mac os, than with Xp/vista etc. Instead of close all tabs, it has Close all but active. Just one difference I've noticed. I'm sure theres more differences.

Anyone got Leopard running, Through an actual mac or pc?

im running leopard on real hardware. has some good parts, some bad.. 10.5.1 is out shortly tho so hopefully that'll be nice and smooth.

The closest I got to Leopard is downloading it, and watching the video on apple.com. I'm geekin to check it out.

I am having other hardware issues with it now. After I removed my dvd burner from the celeron the bios isn't detecting the hard drive, and says no operating system. I think I may use a boot loader aside from darwin.

::edit:: I have to have my dvdr/rw installed before I can actually boot the system. For some reaosn if I don't, my bios settings won't save. How interesting?

Strange problem indeed. Got osx installed on my AMD64 on a different hard disk. I had to have a usb keyboard plugged in, and my ps2 keyboard, Or else it wouldn't work at all. Strange huh? Then when I went to install, My mouse wouldn't work correctly, I got an error message stating the mac was consuming to much power through the usb ports. Unplugged the front usb ports and works like a charm, Well almost. My nic isn't being recognized which is the ONLY problem. Full res on my monitor with osx with my amd. SSE2, and SSE3 works with it. I was able to view dvds worked and airport was installed.

I did find some official drivers for my nic on Realteks website. Will try and install tomorrow.

Is it possible to use two seperate Hard Drives in the same pc? One disk for xp, the other for osx?

In the end I'm sure I'll do a dual boot if I have to.

From what I remember reading, you can do a dual boot with XP and OsX. I believe Maximum PC did a tutorial on it about a year ago or so. I dig through my old mags and see if I can find it, but you might be able to come across it on their site (maximumpc.com) or a google search.

I'm going to have to stop by next week and check it out para.

Ok, Resolution is working great. Network is now working, I had to find other drivers for nic. Now I'm having audio problems. I am getting audio in just the left channel.

I am having problem after problem, As aggrivated as I have become, I can't say it's not a challenge, It's sure as fuck is fun though. I'm having a blast with it.

Can anyone suggest some software for osX 10.4.8
CD/DVD burning software, LIke Nero
DVD Ripping software, Like DVD Shrink,Yes I use this app in XP. I like it.


The DVD player software for os x is decent enough, Don't need another, I found out Itunes sofware plays MP3's that I've ripped/downloaded, and also works with Shoutcast streams. It's not a bad app, but is there a better one? Like Winamp?

I downloaded Opera, and Thunderbird, Both work great.

Toast Titanium for burning, MacTheRipper for ripping.

Altho X's inbuilt burning is generally good enough for most things, especially images.
