-- vnc and remote desktop (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=79899)
vnc and remote desktop
so we have tight vnc setup on 4 pcs, with the vnc server service running. when i use remote desktop to connect, i have to restart the vnc server service before i can connect using vnc again.
is there anything i can do that will allow me to use the two separately without having to restart that service every time?

Erm... Why not use VNC to connect? Does anything appear in the event logs? Are you running the latest VNC? Would a combination of Remote Desktop and Terminal Services do the same job? Is this too many questions? Why am I helping an aggravating twat like yourself?

i think maybe you have a crush on me... fag. i'm using the newest ver of Tight VNC and it works fine. see, if i'm at one of the 4 pcs and something goes wrong and i have to remote into one of the other 3, that's when i get the conflict and have to restart the service. we have a VNC connection open to all 4 of them from my office all day long. wait - if i already have a vnc connection open and i try to vnc from another ip, will i still have to restart the service? i don't know, but plan on finding out. event viewer showed a conflict between services, but that's why i asked the question to begin with. can't use terminal services, as i can't control the gui.

Prefer UltraVNC (server service) for my Windows boxes.
TightVNC Client only used on Linux lappy.

yeah i use ultra at the house, especially with file xfers. do you know if ultra has issues with remote desktop?
there have been a few, but the box only runs software made for us and xp. it's also on a subnet that doesn't have access to any WAN gateways. the only thing i can think is maybe the software written for our production line is somehow freezing the service when remote desktop connects. i don't know, but it's pissin me off.

Wouldn't the logical thing be to contact the makers of your software and ask them, instead of posting on a warez discussion site?

i've asked myself that a few times too. i posted the question here because a couple of you have proven your troubleshooting skills more than once. that said, maybe i didn't explain enough of the problem.
each of the 4 pcs connects to a SQL Server 2005 OLE DB to pull information needed on a dynamic basis. it uses a port nowhere near anything else, but does require constant communication.
i know how to reg hack an xp machine to allow multiple remote connections using remote desktop, but haven't found an online reference that will allow both.
thanking you in advance.

found out that the reason the service was crashing was due to me closing the remote desktop connection, instead of logging off. after i reg-hacked each box to allow multiple remote sessions, i logged off and, to my astonishment, i didn't have to restart it. sweet. thanks again to those that at least tried to help. this one's dead now if you non-banning bastards wanna close it.
