i finally completely crashed this fuckin cunt of a machine....im now running a newly installed version of xp media....the problem is that i reinstalled on c:/......i didnt want to format the drive and lose everything so now i have 2 OS on the drive.....

questions....
can i run like this till i get everything in order?....almost everything i need is partitioned off onto other drives.....c:/ is only the OS's

when everything is ready should i reinstall a new OS and format the drive before installation?

and any suggestions and warnings i havent thought of are always welcome....but might not be understood

you'll be fine I bet. I am no expert, but I do know that upon install xp rewrites the master boot record to zap the ability to boot from another os. The only thing you are losing out on prob is a confusingly organized os partition and a bunch of extra bullshit files.

its def not fine.....the only thing i am running is IE and the scrolling is very delayed and slow(even after a complete shutdown and reboot)....nothing else has been reinstalled so i dont know the extent of how bad it is...i think i need to format and start from scratch on the c drive....

no other partitinons on that hdd should be affected right?...i prepared for this last year

My experience has been that a full install of XP will wipe everything on that particular hard drive. You need to do a "repair install"l if you wish to retain your existing partitions.

It should be fine. Your new XP install resides on C:, so you can safely delete D:\Windows. Have a look through D:\Program Files and see if any programs have stored data you want to keep, if not, you can delete this folder too.

The slow scrolling issue is most likely due to you not having installed display drivers yet.

thanx.....alll my program files are partitioned off in a seperate drive too.....

and i tried a repair install....i got msgs saying it cant locate files or some shit?....fuck it

im goin in for a format and full install tonight....wish me luck guys

May I suggest disconnecting the secondary drive whilst doing a full format as a precaution? I once had the misfortune of the XP installation CD - being unable to format the primary drive for some reason - chose instead to format my data drive with the loss of 200GB of scene rips

ok...i have an app installation cd....but i dont want to use it...how would i know which drivers and codecs i need to reinstall?

and it only seems to be ie with the scrolling prob....folders are fine

seems mother was right...thanx and happy mothers day.....i found a resource cd for this shitbox and i installed the drivers for audio video and modem......now scrolling is fine....

are there any other drivers i should install....it looks like there are about 15 more....i did the 3 that had checks on em

and is there anything i should/can uninstall....like messenger or someshit?...i just want the os running

i tweaked my startup and killed realplayer quicktime and some other cunt apps that i dont think need to be running consistantly....i went through msconfig and hid all microsoft services....but i still have 35 proccesses running from the start...
are there anymore i should clip?...and if so which ones should i look for?
