Wireless bridge and WOL

I would like to enable Wakeup On Lan on my PC so I can access it from work without leaving the PC on for hours.

At the moment it connects via a wireless card to a Netgear DG834G router. I have been looking for a Wireless PCI card that will support WOL but can't find any.

Instead I'm looking to do a bit of network magic.... The plan is to get a second wireless router, plugging one of the lan ports into my PC. This second wireless would then be connected to the main ADSL wireless like a kind of bridge.

This would then mean (that given the correct port forwarding and static IP setup) I could send a magic packet to my ADSL router on a set port. The Forwarding rule would pass it to the static IP of my PC. As the PC is not directly connected to the ADSL router I'm hoping that the the 2nd router would be used. This has the required connection so then passes on the request.

Does this sound sensible? Can it be done? If so, what 2nd router should I be looking at?

(The fixed location of the adsl router and my PC mean I cannot run CAT5 between the two )

The "magic" packet is a broadcast packet which means you'd need to forward it to the broadcast address of your subnet (e.g. if your local LAN is 192.168.0.0/24 then your broadcast address is 192.168.0.255).

I wouldn't bother with a second router but instead just go with exactly what you've mentioned... a wireless bridge as it'll be cheaper. I use one for my 360 downstairs. The 360 is cabled into it and then the bridge talks to my router upstairs wirelessly which allows access out to the Internet and to my media PC to stream all my films and TV shows etc.

In theory it sounds like it could work but I wouldn't like to say for certain.

Do you have any other wireless clients using the Netgear?

Bridging the network wirelessly will work.

AFAIK wireless WOL doesn't work as the operating system needs to be running to know which wireless network to connect to and the key/encryption.
