Converting MPEG-4 to DVD issue

I use TMPG4 and DIVX authoring to convert AVI files to DVD (video TS) files with no problem. The whole process usually takes no more than three hours in total. I downloaded the R5 of Hancock which was an MPEG-4 file. I figured since I already had the MPEG file (which is what TMPG creates from an AVI file), that I could go right to DIVX authoring. Unfortunately, the DIVX authoring software which usually takes 20 minutes indicated that it would take something like 17 hours!! OK, I figured I'd better make the standard MPEG with TMPG so I fired up TMPG and that gave me a similar story - 13 hours to process the MPEG 4.

So here's my question: what's the best way to make a DVD from an MPEG-4 file? ConvertXtoDVD had no problem with it (took an hour) but the TS Video can only be played on certain DVD players, mine included (I have an OPPO which plays anything and everything). My Sony DVD player will not recognize anything that CONVERTXtoDVD processes but that's another question.

Any suggestions?

I think your problem is with the VBR MP3 audio? This can give a false programme duration reading in TMPGEnc. You may need to decompress the audio to .wav before encoding in MPEG-2.
