Hurricane Ike

Just wondering what other members are feeling the effects of this Hurricane. Hopefully any members (I don't know of any specifically) who lived in the path of this Hurricane in Texas and Louisiana are ok and came out of this safe. But it's unbelievable what the effects of this storm had on the midwest including Ohio. Texas has most definitely suffered the most, and for many of us who drive, we'll be feeling the effect Ike had on the refineries down there for weeks to come. But as I write this this morning over 1.5 million people are without power here in Ohio, and just alone in Franklin County (where Columbus resides) over 300,000 people are without power. The county I'm in next door to Franklin has 20,000 people and many other parts of the state are without power as well. All the schools are closed, many businesses as well and without a doubt it will take awhile to get everything back to normal. Because of the damage down in Texas, many of the local power companies sent teams of repair workers down there and now they are on their way back up here to clean up the mess that this same storm created in Ohio. Some people in Central Ohio (Columbus) may go without power for a week before it's all said and done. As you probably figured I have power but from talking to a few people I know this morning, I'm the only one that currently still has power. I guess I can count myself as lucky.

I've never seen anything like this that I can remember with the wind gusting up to 75 mph yesterday and debris flying through the air. This Hurricane truly showed the power of Mother Nature and how we mere humans can do nothing but wait it out. I was out in the morning yesterday (church, lunch, shopping at Micro Center) and the weather was beautiful but you could feel the change coming on as the afternoon arrived and by early evening it was a totally different story. And without a doubt many people here are going to have to deal with it as best they can because of the problems leftover from no power. Gas stations, grocery stores and many other businesses are closed and the only time that ever happens here in Ohio is when we experience a major snow or ice storm.

Just wondering if any other members are feeling the effects of Ike in their neck of the woods and how it's effecting you. I myself don't plan on working today and have no clue as of yet till when I might be able to get back to work.

Yeah I got electric, including Most people I know don't have electric. My buddy moved to Grandview a couple days ago which is near the OSU campus and there are big trees down all over the place.

I went outside to check his car yesterday, and there was a two big branches that were coming down, It was kind of scary, They were big enough to kill someone if they hit you. the one came down in a matter of 20 feet from me.

This is the worst storm we have got in Ohio without any rain, lol.
