Those pesky terro's
Its about time a book like this was released. I'm surprised it took so long and I wish i'd written it myself.
They will make a packet off it. More than enough to balance out the shit they'll get from extremists afraid of the truth and lefty limp wrists who want to protect the feelings of said extremists.
Don't disagree with what you say, but the money is not worth the hassle.
Some of these radical (funda)mentalists - calling them muslim doesn't describe them in significantly more detail than calling them carnivores or human - are nutters. Imagine one of them getting it into their heads that you really have caused personal insult to their prophet and that by erasing that insult (i.e. 'you') they really do get the package tour with the allotted number of stewardesses.
The world has polarised a lot since Salman's time. The shit is for real now. It's not a fear or a worldwide denouncement or a fatwah, it's the local nutters like the ones banged up for the arson now, the 'terrorist cells' we hear about, that you've got to be worried about. They're more like a local branch of an out-of-town Premier League supporters club than SPECTRE I'd imagine. They'll be affiliated...sort of. [Well...Faisal's nephew's cousin went to college (2 days a week) with a bloke that said he was one of them and told Faisal that for £50 he could set up a branch (and charge annual membership).]
I'm not so convinced by the whole 'war on terror' malarky. It's more of a 'war on want'...it fills Haliburton's want for access to the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world and an 'infrastructure rebuilding' project that means none of them are feeling the credit crunch in quite the same way...cept they may have to use $20 bills to light their Cubans rather than nicer burning $50's they used to. Al Qaeda fills a need. I doubt whether they have a worldwide organisational structure that could coordinate a piss up in the proverbial brewery - on second thoughts perhaps not the best choice of event management for them to be undertaking anyway.
This author, think you'll find in a few weeks/months/years will be talking about how this is the worst experience of her life...if her life experiences continue that long. Yeah, Rushdie went from 'acclaimed' to A-list, but he spent the best part of 10yrs ducking and diving. This author will have to hide a lot longer. Unless she wants to live in a jungle in Borneo. But that probably wasn't where she was planning to spend her first millions.
Not worth it.
