Departures

I went to the England game today at Wembley, while we there we got into a conversation and a drinking game with a bunch of Psychotic Geordies.

It was a tie.

The above is irrelevant.

One of the Geordies I got into a conversation with said he had never been anywhere on an Aeroplane before. I was quite shocked because he looked quite normal...

So, getting to the point;

How many of you have NEVER been anywhere on an Aeroplane before?

I've never been on an airplane. I've always driven.

Canada
New York
Indiana
North Carolina

I'm terrified of heights, and I don't know if I can handle being on a plane.

i've only been on a plane twice, but i'm a young 21. my friend's moms has never flown. she's like 60. never been off the continent, travels by train a lot.

I know plenty of people who have never been on a plane.

ive never been on an aeroplane....but i have flown many times on an airplane....i even took one to your island...jet lag works in your favor when traveling east....i dont think ill ever see california again

Ive flown so many times to so many places because of the whole military thing that by the time all is said and done i wont even want to make a paper airplane and throw it across the room, also that reminds me, have they finished all the work they were doing on Heathrow yet, i mean for fuck sakes, i went there on and off for 3 years and they were always doing work on one of those fucking terminals as i sad there freezing my ass off, moral of the story, there is none, and you will never get the time back that you spent reading this ha ha ha ha

never been in a plane either.

Flown all over, but fortunately have never done a long haul longer than 10hrs. Most of the flying has been work-based (and I tag a holiday on to end, so work covers the flights and I just need to sort out accommodation for the non-work time ), so I usually get business class which makes it bearable. The thought of more than 8hrs in economy... Some people can fly without any problems, but other people (like me) get painful eardums (to the point it feels like someone is repeatedly sticking a knitting needle in - I've tried the drinking/sucking a boiled sweet/swallowing...doesn't help), swollen feet/ankles, stiffness all over, colds/sniffles...I'm not usually a little girl, considered a geezer on the ground, but flying (which I have no fear of at all) seems to take it out of me.

But also depends on who I fly with, some make it much more bearable than others. BA is cool, their business class lets me sleep most of the flight and drink the rest of it...which seems to soothe all my pains Managed to drink them out of Johnnie Walker (all labels they had!) on both the way over and way back last trip

But point of the post: it's not how you get there, it's what you see/hear/experience when you're there. If you've never been out of your postcode/town/state/country then you really are missing out on life. Cliches are such because they're invariably true: travel really does expand your mind as well as your horizons.

Love flying (domestic & international). Nice to chill for a few hours (most ever did was 6), read, watch a movie, listen to music and step off in a completely different location.

I love to fly, and have flow in pretty much every non-military craft one can, and a few military craft.


I do know people, though, who have never been out of Ohio, and more than a few across the country who have never been out of their county.

Sad state of affairs, if you ask me.

ive flown quite a few times but almost always to the same place (preveza airport - greece).

i dont mind being in the air, but the part when the engines start and we begin to take off makes me want to beat the shit out of fellow passengers whilst simultaneously crying my eyes out. i cant even think straight during take off and i absolutely pour with sweat. what a pussy i am.

In general I hate to fly, but, its necessary.

I live in England yet I can fly to France in 1 hour, Germany and Spain in 2 hours, Greece and any North African country in 4 hours, India in 5 hours and New York in 8 hours at any time of the day.

By car, I could probably get to Glasgow in about 5 hours. Choices choices...
