-- Skype Replacing a Landline.. (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=82758)
Skype Replacing a Landline..
So, I'm wondering if anyone here uses Skype and calls landlines at all and how the quality is?
I was thinking about getting a skype handset and getting rid of my traditional phone line.
for 2.99/mth Skype has the unlimited calls in North America to landlines, so it would save me quite a bit of money.
I know a lot of people do pc -pc with Skype but I'm more concerned with the quality to landlines right now...
If you are in the US then use magic jack

Ya, i would connect via cable.
Basically right now I have the whole bundle of Internet/phone/TV but I was thinking about going all over the air HD and the rest of my tv online, and then just using my internet connection for my phone line as well.
I have heard of the Magic Jack but I live in Canada so I don't think that will work...I think I'm gonna end up just getting a cheaper usb skype phone and trying it out a little before I decide to cancel the services that I have.
::Edit - It looks like the MagicJack will work in Canada...I might give that a try...

He wants to get rid of the cost of a landline.
I used to use Skype along time ago When they were offering free outbound calls to landlines, I paid for a phone # it wasn't that great, I always had problems with it. The call quality was horrible.
Again that was a couple years ago, so I don't know how it is now. I can't answer that.
Like I said my mother uses that Magic Jack, I had open up ports, and it's working fine now. She hasn't complained about it one bit.
