capturing dv
last night i spent some time capturing videos from my dv camera...im using winDV it only captures in avi (type 1 and 2)...i also tried windows movie maker....question is
is it better to capture in avi than vob or mpeg 2? i used avi type 2 setting and 60 min roughly took 12.5 gigs...is that overkill?...i know dv should be larger than dvd but that sounds rediculous

It depends really. I'm assuming "type 2" is recording raw ie. with no compression, as the file size seems to be about right. All your editing should be done with raw recording and then you compress them to your favoured format, mpeg-1, mpeg-2 etc..
Yup, capture as raw AVI.
It'll be huge but worth it. Then compress into whatever format you like.
