lcd to pc

i have a 40" lcd 1080p 100hz samsung and want to hook my pc up to it but its on the other side of my living room and am not sure whether my graphics card will be powerful enough to play my pc games at a decent resolution.
I have a evga 8800gts scc 640.

You should have no problems. I use an old ati 1900xtx that outputs to a sony 40" @ 1080p.

All you need to decide is if you want to do it via the vga or dvi->hdmi.

An 8800 should be able to handle most games at 720p no issue, 1080p it might struggle with but that just depends moreso on the game and other system specs etc etc.

In terms of connecting it avoid VGA and stick with the digital formats (I've spent countless hours since getting my new laptop as well as posting a thread in here about it and have seen that VGA is *not* the way to go).

You'll want to go with either dvi or hdmi depending on your card options/tv options because they're the digital formats and you won't lose any quality.

It all depends on what outputs you have on your pc and inputs you have on your tv, hdmi->hdmi would be best because then you can most likely take care of audio as well through a single cable, if you only have dvi output you can also use a dvi->hdmi cable if your tv does not have dvi input, either will give you the same quality video-wise and you may or may not just have to run a seperate cable for audio.

and no matter what search for cables through online retailers besides the big tech store chains cause they charge as much as $80ish for a 6foot hdmi cable where as I just ordered a new 15 foot one for $9 off newegg. hdmi 1.3 spec cables should be able to handle distances of around 25feet without any quality/signal issue but i would try and rearrange it so you don't have to put that much stress on it with the shortest cable possible for best results.

hope this helps some

thx for all your help lads. my system specs are q6600 95w o/c to 3.3. 4g of geil black dragon 1066mhz memory and abit IP35 Pro "Off Limits" XE motherboard. instead of moving my pc to my tv i'll hunt around for a very long dvi to hdmi lead and give it a go. cheers

better off buying a dvi -> hdmi adapter (like below) and then just buying a long plain hdmi cable. i think it might be cheaper. not sure, you could check monoprice or w/e.

Lol exactly what I bought last week to finish my pc to lcd project in my bedroom (enterainment center downstairs is next) Something I noticed a while back about the DVI connectors, the 3rd pin from the left in the 3rd row is pushed in some what in relation to the other pins. Seems this is normal (for what I have no idea) but anyway the one I just bought (dvi to hdmi adapter) was a open item and when I showed the pushed in pin to the dumbass sales guy he took another 4 bucks off it ($9 to $5) since I said I could maybe get it to work lol by "fixing the pushed in pin" myself LOL.
