HD on PS3?

i read somewhere about playing hidef rips on my ps3. it involves converting from mkv to divx or something? does anyone have anymore info they would like to share with me?

there is a clip on youtube with running commentary, but i can't seem it find it now

is there a nice little program to do a 1 click conversion? but keeping the quality. not bothered about the audio as i hear that the 5.1 on hidef rips get converted to 2 channel stereo anyway! so many questions, so little answers!

cheers all

Get MKV2Vob. That is all.

Link.

I've personally used this program, it's fast and works great.

This program does NOT re-encode the video, it only remuxes the audio (turns 5.1 to 2-channel). If you can handle the loss of 5.1, you're good to go.

Personally I use GOTSent (http://sentry23.googlepages.com/). It's faily quick and can convert a folder full of files in one go.

Like many converters it's a GUI interpreter for a number of other programs but always seems to work well enough.

MKV2VOB only re-encodes the video if it need's to.

Personally i prefer it over gotsent.

I didn't realise that - will give it a try. Does it do batch encoding or just singles?

It can batch encode.

but wont these files still be above 4.x gb ... if so they wont work on the hdd format for the ps3 will they? even an external drive needs to be fat32 (i thinK) to work...which doesnt store big size files...
?
i dunno lol

Can't speak for your drive but I use a Buffalo Linkstation 1TB and it handles the files without an issue.

It can split output file into whatever sized chunks you want, I Tend to split mine into two 2.1G parts.
Some pre-encoded PS3 1080ps movies are around 3.9G and so easy fit on a DVDR.
