Outlander
Jesus (James Cavaziel) is a spaceman who lands in 6th(?) century viking territory bringing with him a glow-in-the-dark space monster that terrorises the locals who include John Hurt as a viking warlord and (a plump) Sophia Myles as a butch princess.
Surprisingly not as shit as it sounds and some quite decent sfx - some of you will know that I'm a sfx whore and can easily be bought by a few explosions and funky looking animals/creatures. The creature fx are up with some of the best of recent times. (The offworld 'cleansing' scene in particular is quite impressive.)
Not going to win any awards - the dialogue is particularly shit, sounding like some 6th grader with learning difficulties was given final say - and won't make anyone's films of 2009, but great popcorn fodder.

I agree with you 100% -- was a great little flick that Could Have Been so much better if only given a larger budget and a much better dialogue writer. The dialogue was "trying to be" super duper, over-the-top crazy EPIC -- and simply went too far considering the material itself and was laughable at times because of this (this aint freakin braveheart for frig sakes)
Great action scenes accompanied by a very cool looking monster and yes, Jesus himself defending those vikings from its wrath.
Is this it?

Looks like it had a limited release here in the states. Might have to give it a go.

Its kind of like Beowulf with Sci-Fi twist. Worth a watch, Jim Caviezel is a quality actor thats been underused imo. I see no need for the 'from outerspace' angle for both hunter and hunted though.
I thought its a good middle of the road film. Nothing amazing about but not shit either definitely worth a look. Jim Caviezel a good actor although he doesn't seem to make that many films.
I liked it a lot and I thought that Jim C did a credible job with the lines that he was given. Bad choice of John Hurt for the Viking Warlord though. Would have liked it more had they chosen a guy like the head viking guy in The 13th Warrior (I think his name was Bulvi in the movie). Now HE was a viking warlord for sure. I have to point one particularly lame plot device though. Early in the picture (in the first thirty minutes), our hero gets his high tech hand weapon knocked out his hand (he gets knocked out in the process) and the gun flies through the air into a fast moving stream where it conveniently goes who knows where. I don't know about you but I would have damn well tried to recover the thing at some point (wouldn't have been THAT hard to find) in order to battle the creature. Not having it forces our hero to use the weapons and technology at hand to battle the creature. I get that but c'mon....
I watched this about a month ago , thought it was pretty decent.
