the quality over a standard dvdrip is small if at all !?!

The only reason for them is blu rips are arriving before dvdrips

I honestly dont care one hoot

Gotta agree with you , tho the reason for them is that dumbass Sony thought that they would be big enough to put people off from downloading them.Fucked up there didn't they.

If they kept the DTS audio I might be tempted. I know the HD rips do but as yet not seen any SD rips with DTS.

What are we actually talking about here? I understood "BDRip" to mean an Xvid scene release sourced from a BD instead of a DVD.

Quality-wise, I can't see any advantage to this. However, where the BD is a different version (uncensored, director's cut, extended) then it's a worthwhile release.

But the NFO that Ripper posted is something different - a full BD compressed to a BD9.

(And BTW - is there a subtle difference between a BD9 and a AVCHD disc or are they effectively the same thing?)

I got some full 1080p BD to D9, some look way better than the dvd version others hardly no difference.

That definition is something for the admins to sort out. The BD rips posted here recently in the XviD section have been standard resolution (640 pixels) and tagged as type "unknown".

The nfo posted by Ripper tagged that particular release as X264. A certain amount of conversion needs to be done to make it AVCHD player compliant.

I assumed that the xvid rips are from the blue ray discs as dvd are on it's way out quickly and suppliers are getting blue ray discs quicker now as most have superior sound and better quality picture, but i have films like commando (not dir cut version) but has dts but the pic is shite, and seemed to be a rush job to load up the titles list.

Personally i am waiting for the day they can release the menu and extras with the film like dvd's are today

get glasses

BDRips are Blu-Ray to XviD
BRRips are x264 files encoded to XviD

pretty much sums it up for you guys. They key thing here is that these are playable on standalone XviD players
