IE and Firefox not working

Ok , so my firefox and Internet explorer has stopped connecting to the internet.

Firefox just has a plain white screen where the websites should be and IE just get the "cannot connect" message.

When I close Firefox I get this error...

I can get the Internet explorer in my "program files" folder to work (hence how I able to start this thread), but the one I use in the "program files(x86)"which I have a shortcut to on my desktop is the one giving me the shaft.

My brother used Pc tools registry mechanic earlier and they stopped working after that. I've tried booting from my vista disc and trying a repair but that did nothing. I also tried re-installing Firefox , which did jack. I'm thinking theres some registry keys missing but not sure where to look.

Also whenever I close some programs I get a "stopped working" message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be that Malware Vondu or however you spell it?

Run Regedit and delete everything, should work wonders, lol.

Yeah it sounds like it could be a registry issue. Maybe try and run tuneup utilities? I use that for registry and I have no problems, I refuse to manually edit any reg files.

Try to reset the Winsock file:

1. Click Start , type cmd in the Start Search text box, and then
press ENTER.
2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netsh winsock reset
3. Restart the computer.

Anyway I just bit the bullet and re-installed windows.
