Girl gets 100 lashes and 1 year in prison...for being raped!

JEDDAH – A 23-year-old unmarried woman was awarded one-year prison term and 100 lashes for committing adultery and trying to abort the resultant fetus.
The District Court in Jeddah pronounced the verdict on Saturday after the girl confessed that she had a forced sexual intercourse with a man who had offered her a ride. The man, the girl confessed, took her to a rest house, east of Jeddah, where he and four of friends assaulted her all night long.
The girl claimed that she became pregnant soon after and went to King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces in an attempt to carry out an abortion. She was eight weeks’ pregnant then, the hospital confirmed.
According to the ruling, the woman will be sent to a jail outside Jeddah to spend her time and will be lashed after delivery of her baby who will take the mother’s last name.

If I'm not mistaken - and I could be, I remember hearing this before, but may have got the detail wrong - it is an offence punishable by a prison term for an unmarried woman to ride alone in a car with a man who isn't her family in Saudi Arabia?

I wonder why they have that law? What is it they're afraid may happen? Who is it they're protecting and from what?

And let me guess: it was dark, she didn't know the guy that gave her a lift, she doesn't remember the car/licence, she doesn't know where she was taken, and she didn't report it or tell anyone that it happened...

But she couldn't be lying, right? It must have been rape, because...?

Their laws are their laws regardless of whether anyone thinks they're barbaric or not. Luckily I live in a country that would never condone anything so barbaric.

But we will allow the systematic and routine torture of innocent-of-all-charges British citizens by Yanks if they tell us we must...and then we'll refuse to discuss the torture and suspend our grand notions of 'human rights' if the Yanks tell us to STFU.

Makes me proud to be a Brit!

It's weird though, because even though they may have really harsh "punishments" like this over there, we still have bigoted cockwits who persecute them when they come over here for a better (and hopefully more tolerant) life... I'm glad I was born British, it makes me a more worthwhile human. Couple that with the fact that as a white British citizen I could probably visit Afghanistan, fire enough smack up my arm to kill an elephant, take some flying lessons, fire an AK47 at some Jews and still not get thrown in prison without charge when I came back... IT'S AWESOME!!!

My opinion is she should have never have accepted the lift in "her story".
Even if it wasnt against the country's law its against muslim law. and she well knew that.

If i was visiting a muslim country I would fecking well behave myself and follow the countrys laws, have you seen the punishments for fecks sake?

You gotta be friggin stupid to mess with the law over there, I know cos my stepdad got 30 lashes in saudi in the 80's for being drunk. the scars looked cool, lmao bet it hurt like hell! (couldnt have happend to a nicer guy :P.)

She should have told a better lie.
