mp3 downloads?

why are some mixes i grab a lot quieter than others when played and is there a way to "fix" the quiet ones to be louder without altering the volume on my stereo?
thanks in advance

what you're looking into is called volume normalization, it really all depends on what software you're using to play (some does it on the fly) while if you're playing on external equipment you'll have to find an mp3 converter that supports it.

can you recommend any convertors that will convert it and allow me to save the fixed file?
thanks

itunes

Right click track in library > get info> options > move volume adjustment slider > ok.

Track is now louder or more quite depending on which way you moved the slider.

Oh this is on a mac, might be slighty different on Windows.

::2nd edit. Once you have ok'd the track in the options tab of the get info dialogue, you can then copy (drag) the track from the library to wherever you want it. Then delete the track from the library.

Sorry to be a cunt 1st time round. Was replying and then my kids wanted a bath...

Erm, I have NEVER bought an mp3 and have over 13 gig of music in my itunes library. Just because you CAN buy music from the itunes shop doesn't mean HAVE to.

And actually itunes is a pretty nifty bit of software imo. Plenty of scripts available etc. Sounds like either a) you've had a bad experience with it or b) you've never even bothered to take a proper look at it.

the mix wont have been mastered much so thats a problem. also if the mix is done with various sources of mp3 then the volumes will all be different. thats mostly down to the original tracks mastering etc:-

there is no standard, so upping the volume or normalising the mix would be your best bet!

WMP is for cunts.

Your problem is easily solved by using a media player that supports Replay Gain, such as Foobar2000 or Winamp.
