Poker fucking eyes out and then kick her in the cunt.

I know that quite a few people play regular poker on here and I just wondered if a thread would be worthwhile to share your useful links, recommended books, strategy or just show off how big your bankroll is.

Below is a good poker forum to learn strategy, review played hands and pretty much anything else poker related.

Two Plus Two Forums

Below is exactly what it sounds like... YouTube but for poker. Watch all episodes of the major TV poker shows, watch the televised WSOP tournaments, replayed hands, interviews etc.

PokerTube

I personally play live poker once or twice a week (came first in a 15-person £5 buy-in tourney on Monday to snatch £40) and online poker about six hours a week (although I haven't played for the last two weeks after some horrible bad beats which put me on tilt).

I'm not a bad player live (I'm not great either) but I can be an idiot online and have lost about $30 over the last two months from my initial $50 deposit. I seem to play quite well during a session and build up a profit but then spank it in a few hands where I get cocky and think I can afford to play a looser (Gus Hansen-style) and more aggressive (also Gus Hansen-style) because of the profit I just made and end up trying to bluff calling stations or bluffing into monster hands.

I've recently been analysing my PokerTracker stats to try and find my leaks and most of my losses are from the small blind where I tend to limp in or defend my blinds following a raise and am then subsequently out of position with average cards. If I folded all small blinds apart from when I had the top 10 starting hands, I'd probably be in profit now.

Slight claim to fame here... I used to work at a computer high street shop during my A-levels and the owner used to let his relative use our office to run his spread-betting operation. Not really knowing too much about it, I just assumed that he was a gambler who'd end up losing all of his money. Fast forward to a week ago and I see him appear in a WSOP Europe tournament that I was watching on PokerTube. A quick search on Google and it turns out, he's a successful professional poker player now called the Wise Owl.

So... your turn I guess... does anybody have any useful links, interesting stories, general advice or do you just want to show off?

I play, I do well.

I don't have any particular strategy and don't really research it much (learned how to attempt to count for blackjack, that's as advanced as I got), if I play conservative I do well, if I go balls to the wall I'll miss something and it usually helps to have the proper balance of alcohol

My results in live poker dipped recently as I overthought every situation, gave people waaay too much credit for the bets they were making and generally lost the plot by trying to play like the pros. On Monday, I just played instinctive poker and came first.

I have an extremely obsessive personality and will just emerge myself completely in anything I have an interest in. Alcohol has always been a constant but it was PCs years ago (I fucking hate them now), then music... then guitars... then magic tricks (my embarassing secret) and now poker. Although I don't play much, I am either studying or watching poker for about four hours a day whilst working from home... and I'm still below average which causes me to obsess more and continue watching, reading etc. when I could be doing something better like nailing kippa's mum.

Nah, I do have some autistic tendancies (but then I know loads of people who diagnose themselves as borderline autistic because it seems to be the done thing these days) which others have pointed out to me but I don't have any social interaction problems.

I like the Poker. Used to play about 3 times a week at my local Casino. Then I started having to go into work earlier and seeing as the selfish cunts at Gala deem Poker to only be suitable from Sunday to Thursday then I don't get to play as often.

Still play every now and then at Casino, Leicester Gala, Coventry Ricoh and play with friends once a week. I go to a friends parents house once a week where they have a table and I play against 2 brothers, the mum, the dad, the sister, her boyfriend and another one of my mates, its a very high standard and the family rivalry is huge. The 2 brothers have been on TV playing in finals of the Great British Poker Tour and one of them won this years Nuts Poker league (the dad came second lol). I can hold my own with them, it was me and one of the brothers who introduced them all to poker about 8 years ago.

I rarely play online now, I don't trust it unless its a prearranged game.

Are you worried about the "house" fixing the odds/games or poker bots?

Don't know what it is I am afraid of, it just 'feels' wrong sometimes. Get outdrawn too many times, shit players getting lucky too often and too many good hands getting dealt - sometimes it seems theres a fullhouse or better every other hand.

Probably just me being paranoid but I prefer live games, preferably with a house dealer, I know what i'm getting then.

Nah, I know what you mean. I know variance plays a huge part but those bad beats I took recently were all full houses vs full houses. Full houses vs quads. It just seemed so improbable but then Daniel Negreanu took a series of similar beats on High Stakes Poker (season 2 I think) where he flopped the nuts but then got overpowered by several full houses and quads in the space of about 4 hours.

Had another live game tonight and there were only three people left (2nd place gets their money back, first takes majority of the pot) with similar stack to 2nd position...

I'm dealt AQo SB... the dealer folds and I complete the blind. The flop comes something like Q74 (rainbow) so I check OOP (to try and trap him) and sure enough... he bets about 50% of what I have so I immediately move all-in.... which he eventually calls...

The cards turn over and he has pocket 8s so I am WAY ahead. The turn is a 10 so I'm good to go unless he catches any of the TWO FUCKING OUTS HE HAS LEFT.

...and of course... he gets an 8 on the river.

I pretty much threw my chips in disgust at his face.

:EDIT: ...in fact, look at Compo's face on the left for the exact reaction I gave.

That free card after the turn is what lost him the hand. A decent sized bet and I'd have probably folded and put him on a better pair or Jx. I didn't bet after his check as I was expecting a check/raise which would have also made me fold.
