HDTV Ripped to Xvid

Have a few Xvids that were sourced from HDTV.

They won't play properly. Can hear sound, but video starts then seems to lock up. Have tried VLC and WMP.

Assuming the files aren't corrupt, is it a codec issue?

Not tried converting to dvd yet, but ConvertX seems to accept the file and it appears in the video view bit.

Thanks for any help, I know fuck all about this side of things! (I did have a look in the forum but gave up)

Don't bother converting to another format, if the files jacked then the file is jacked.

It sounds like it could be a codec issue, or the files are just jacked. Out of curiosity what files were they? I'm sure if there scene releases someone can confirm if they've been nuked for any reasons.

are you sure there Xvids? I know if your PC isn't powerful enough for the HD files they will stutter, and play jacked up.

I assumed they were Xvid's, but now you ask....

The nfo's state that the video format is : X264

I just assumed they were HDTV (whatever format that is)converted to Xvid. Looks like I was wrong!

They are rips of some recent doc's (Nature's great events), I got the NZB's and just assumed they were Xvids!

I take it I got the HD ones and should have gone for the smaller sized ones which would have been the normal Xvids!?!?!?

Here's the deal, the files aren't fucked. What kind of rig do you have? If you have anything slower than a 3500+ amd64 with a 1gb/ram and a half way decent video card like a GeForce 6200 it won't play that well. That's if it's in 720p

Now if it's in 1080i/p I can't play them on my system that well and I got a AM2 5000+ 2gb/ram, ATI 2600xt video card. Should run em just fine but for some reason I can't.

Those files are fine, I just bet your rig is older and can't handle the files. I bet when they do play they look great don't they?

If it's TV show a 45 minute TV show will be about 1.2gb in size if it's in 720p. The Xvid will be about 350mb in size.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I just don't have the setup to play them. Not too sure about some of the spec you mentioned, but it is a few years old now (apart from the 2Gb Ram!)

Yep, they were that size and the Xvids are much smaller...I'll get them!

Cheers Para

You'll need a pretty saucy PC to playback 1080p but I've got an old Athlon 2400 with 2GB ram playing 720p without issues (albeit on a stripped-down-for-speed copy of windows).

VLC or GOMPlayer should play the files fine without the need for codecs as well
