He's quite mad you know.

Buuuuuump.

Got this for xmas on the 360 and it's fantastic. I've never really been into RPG -style games (e.g. I bought Oblivion but it never really drew me in) however I can't get enough of this game. I've completed a few quests but have been spending most of my time exploring, levelling up and looting.

The graphics are great and really give the appearance of a nuclear-torn wasteland. Seeing empty children's playgrounds with dust storms pushing through them is all very atmospheric.

The sounds are excellent. The combat sounds are nice and satisfying and the ambient sounds really set the mood (especially when you're inside a building or underground). It's quite unnerving to hear the scuttling of something nearby not knowing what it is and then experiencing the panic of coming face to face with a giant Radscorpion and bumping into walls as you struggle to find your exit point.

All in all, a solid game that I'll play through again once completed but choose the bad karma path (how you behave in the game impacts on parts of the storyline and results in different quests, companions etc).

After only five evenings on it, I'm at nearly 30 hours play time and I've only completed 4 quests (3 major and 1 side quest). Up to level 14 at the moment and... and... this is the nerdiest conversation I've ever had. I sound like kippa.

Not sure how many missions, a fair few. Geeky I know, but I like to just wander and find stuff, exploring like you. Hopefully I'll get chance to play again with bad karma, I wanna be a nasty fucker!

I've tried playing this game, need to give it a second shot. I got out of the training missions and into the town with the bomb and so far its so much talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk I thought this was an 'action' rpg where I would actually be partaking in some action except running away or shooting people that catch me trying to steal their shit. I was just turned off and honestly pretty bored while playing it, don't want to leave it at that though I'll have to give it another go.

Agreed, the early part of the game is a little long winded and put me off at first.

Give it another go as once you get out and about it really does come into it's own.

If I had a criticism it's that enemies seem to level up at the same time a you. Other than that (and a dodgy frame rate) it's spot on

Just a heads up on Fallout 3 addon - Operation Anchorage

wiki link

Could help spice it up a bit as you can play this no matter what stage of the original game you are at

Oh yeah... I forgot to post the new DLC.

I completed the game quite a while ago and have got around 850/1000 GS so still a bit more work to do (reach level 20 on bad/neutral karma, finish one main quest (bypassed it for some reason), kill all Behemoths and find all Bobbleheads).

Not sure if I fancy dropping 800 points on a few more quests though. I've still got a ton of locations that I haven't visited but with no room to level up, I don't feel very motivated. The third DLC will bump the limit from level 20 to level 30 so I might just wait until that comes out in April.

Forgot about this thread, turned out I love the game after giving it a real shot. Very fun, their version of post-apocalyptic Washington DC is great. It still took me until level 11 to realize how to properly use VATS and that the pipboy has a flashlight on it.

There are a bunch of great mods out there for it from useful (more monster spawns, being able to call in enclave help, new and varied weapons) to ridiculous/insane (gun that shoots dogs, a minigun that shoots nukes). Having never played any of the past fallout games this was my introduction to it's snarky style humor and I really fell into it and enjoyed it, great game that I highly recommend now even despite it's long introduction. Definitely a game where you need to explore to really enjoy it, and that the main quest line although decent, doesn't even really compare to the other parts of the game.

Haven't tried the DLC yet so can't say anything either way about that.

And now randomly I wont play it for a few days and I'll hear "I don't want to set the world on fire" stuck in my head on repeat driving me insane
