Forgot about this thread, turned out I love the game after giving it a real shot. Very fun, their version of post-apocalyptic Washington DC is great. It still took me until level 11 to realize how to properly use VATS and that the pipboy has a flashlight on it.
There are a bunch of great mods out there for it from useful (more monster spawns, being able to call in enclave help, new and varied weapons) to ridiculous/insane (gun that shoots dogs, a minigun that shoots nukes). Having never played any of the past fallout games this was my introduction to it's snarky style humor and I really fell into it and enjoyed it, great game that I highly recommend now even despite it's long introduction. Definitely a game where you need to explore to really enjoy it, and that the main quest line although decent, doesn't even really compare to the other parts of the game.
Haven't tried the DLC yet so can't say anything either way about that.
And now randomly I wont play it for a few days and I'll hear "I don't want to set the world on fire" stuck in my head on repeat driving me insane
