There's probably assloads of invalid references to AVG still in the registry, for a quick and easy fix I'd download and run CrapCleaner (CCleaner), go into the registry section > Scan for issues > Fix issues. Keep running that scan until it comes back clean (as one clean can often leave other issues in the registry that were referencing the bits you just "fixed"
you can use CCleaner to give your PC a spring clean at the same time.
Oh, and remember to let CCleaner make a backup before it changes anything, just in case it fucks up
