Review: Marci X (2003)

Marci X (2003) Review by Sue Barker.

'G's', 'bitches', 'playaz', 'hoe's' and 'niggaz'. All dietary words of today's wholesome gangsta rappers. Also the often overused terms by Dr. Snatchcatcher (refered to in the movie as Dr.S and played by Damon Wayans), the gangsta rapper featured in the new Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe from Friends) movie, Marci X.

Kudrow plays Marci, the daughter of a super-rich record label CEO. When her fathers record label gets bad publicity for putting out Dr.S's 'controversial' new CD, Marci's father sends Marci to talk to Dr.S and help him clean up his act and make him more approachable as a nice guy rather than his current image as a badass, gun-toting meanie.

The movie gets off to an atrocious start. This movie is hyper-camp to the extreme, this is definitely a movie our homosexual male/female readers of vcdquality.com will enjoy. But it's also accessible to everyone else in that it is a very entertaining movie with some downright hilarious gags. The scene at the charity auction is completely hilarious. And the openly gay boyband spoof Boyz R Us are brilliant.

Marci X is no classic, but neither is it a bad movie. It settles on the 'average' mark. If your bored or feeling low and need some cheering up, watch Marci X because it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The costumes and set designs are all bright and cheery. Lot's of neons and pastels going on. Lots of flamboyancy. The soundtrack is good fun too and suits the movie and the Boyz R Us tracks are hilarious!

Marci X is a solid slice of entertainment and nothing more. You probably won't want to watch it again after you've seen it once, although if your friends haven't seen it, grab a bag of potato chips and a few sodas, call some friends and watch it with them for a good giggle.

Recommended but not a 'must' see.

i actually enjoyed watching this movie, and hope it does well at box office, when it is released.
